Is there a reason you wouldn't play a planet card immediately?

I'm wondering if there is any reason not to play a planet card immediately? Or why they are consumable in the first place and don't just apply automatically? (maybe to limit how many you can earn at one time?)

If you earn them through other means than purchasing and you don't care about the hand they upgrade, you can sell them back for money. There's also a voucher that works off of Planet cards that are in your inventory.

There are a couple useful scenarios, but much less use cases compared to holding tarots. There's a voucher that gives x-mult for planet cards held. There's also the legendary joker perkeo, that duplicates a random held consumable (though normally I would try and dupe tarots). Another reason to hold is if you want to make sure you can use fool on it. It's also nice to hold as then you can sell it (with campfire or if you are getting free planets with astronomer, then it's free money). Also needed for things like 8-ball and blue seal as then you can choose to use or sell. There are probably some other uses I'm missing, but thats the jist of it.

A card you have in your consumables can't appear in packs or in the shop.

So say the only planet you want is Mars, holding a Jupiter makes it a bit more likely that you'll find Mars.

For the same reason, if all you want is Mars, don't hold a Mars card before opening a celestial pack.
