Personally that's not my experience, I'm usually either out well before or far enough ahead that 3x is straightforward.
Maybe the game is expecting you to start moving a bit more to Xmult before ante 8
Wholeheartedly agree with this.
If your run is actually going well, Violet Vessel is one of the ante 8 bosses you're happy to see. Some others can screw you so much harder.
It's actually 6X.
Small Blind is 1X, Big Blind is X1.5, and most bosses are 2X. The Needle is one of the few that are lower (1X) while The Wall is larger (4X) and Violet Vessel is larger still (6X).
Cough. The Needle would like a word.
If you check run info in the shop right after beating Ante 7, you can check the Ante 8 boss blind 3 shops in advance. That's 3 shops to change your joker setup, get Luchador, buy a reroll voucher or - if you can't get any of those - prepare chariot / justice cards or other enhancements for that last round.
If your economy is insufficient to buff you enough for the blind, I think losing is fair enough. I've lost to it and didn't really feel cheated.
That's the way it works sometimes. All of the boss blinds are designed to counter something or other, some of them are more brutal than others (depending on how you've played to that point).
But if you deem any loss to be wasted time, then that's on you. Even when I've been hard countered by a boss, if I've enjoyed the game to that point then I wouldn't consider the time wasted.
If you've been scrapping by, it's gonna kick your behind
If you're good enough it's just a chump
There's that grey area where you have enough in the tank....maybe, they're the fun runs where luck really plays a part and you just eek it out
Some bosses will kill some runs, and that's a rougelite, sometimes you get screwed as you get better you can get around or avoid pitfalls, and generally if you lose it's your fault
