Use every discard, check your draws, calculate possibilities, consider every bonus on your cards and every probability with your Jokers. If you truly do all this correctly and still can't win on The Needle then you aren't at fault and it might have been unwinnable with your deck and Jokers.
I always get afraid on it but I haven't lost to it yet I think.
Also if you have Burglar and you're going to fight that boss? Sell it, you want to save $2 and a few extra hands so you can lose? Be smart.
when you use burglar on this boss, you end up getting to play 4 hands. your initial amount of hands is reduced to 1, and then burglar gives +3 after that, for a total of 4
4 hands on a boss that only lets you play 1 hand is a huge advantage over losing 2 discards (at higher stakes). It's also great economy.
Burglar is bad if you upgrade your discards in any way, since burglar always gives the same amount of hands.
