I still can't finish a run after 15 hours...
I'm going insane.

I've played a lot of both roguelites and poker. I understand all the mechanics and how they fit together (or so I think).

I feel like I'm playing as optimally as possible and I simply get crushed by one of the bosses in ante 7 or 6. Their debuffs/effects just ♥♥♥♥ me, especially when it just neuters my exact build.

Winning first round in 1 hand to get the extra dollar. Scooping up XMult and +Mult jokers. Getting money up early and sticking to 25 when I can for interest. Skipping blinds where appropriate. Going for flush and straight builds when possible. Ordering jokers appropriately. Building synergies with jokers. Using Planet Cards often on only a few hands (the ones that fit my build/synergies).

I don't get it. I've ready every recommendation under the sun. I'm already doing all of it.

I've never been this frustrated with a game in playing them for 30 years.

I could have easily typed this comment myself when I was at about the 15 hour mark. I feel your pain. But it feels oh so awesome when you finally win one.

Don't forget about Chips! Ideally you want at least one Joker with a Chips effect or enhancement. The idea is to strike a balance between Chips and Mult+xMult for your score multiplier, to get the highest score possible.

I recommend starting out with Flush builds, as they are some of the highest performing decks right now and they don't require specific Jokers to beat Ante 8. The general play is to start out with a few Mult Jokers and a Chips Joker, and add in any Flush-specific Jokers. Pick up every holo and poly. Once you find a Suit specific Mult Joker, grab it and then pick up Standard packs to pad out your deck with that suit. Only go for Four Fingers if you find an enhanced one or if you are dual-Suiting - it almost always will be a net loss on score otherwise. With a half decent Flush deck, you should be able to handily clear Ante 8, unless you get super unlucky and draw a Boss blind that prevents your suit.

Same here, 16 hours and still never won a run. Got close once but that's about it. Hope I'll have a bit more luck in the next few runs as I'm getting bored of the game and probably won't play it a lot more. Had a good time though !

My only success has been hard committing to whatever early jokers the game gives you and then reinforcing the engine you have been presented. Even then it's kinda RNG.

I managed 2 decks, but that's about it...tried everything and I even get awesome joker combos, yet one random boss just manages to kill me with ease. Even the most basic and simple ones...this game needs balancing fixes...

I generally prioritize two pair. I like two pair because the probability of getting it is higher than other hands and it only requires 4 cards. Then you have the option to discard a card you don't want or add a stone card for added chips. Also, some bosses penalize you for drawing cards, so having the option to not draw an additional card is a benefit.

If two pair upgrade isn't available, I go for upgrading straight or flush.

Another thing is to get your economy going. If you get a card with a solid multiplier at the beginning, you can get through the hands quicker which will give you money to build up interest. Start getting enough money so later on you can re-roll in search of better cards.

Also I always buy vouchers that increase the number of hands or discards.

I used to do Two Pair...but someone one way or another a boss just manages to destroy me even with that...kinda just gave up on that strat.

Focusig on one suit/rank and hand type usually works for me. If you get a walkie talkie early, try to create as many 10s and 4s as possible, then look for 3 or 4 of a kind jokers and planets, etc. Glass and steel cards are very valuable for late game, so is thinning down your deck to optmize discards.

Same crap. Moreover, I have already played 23 hours. I think it’s not even worth talking about the selection of different combinations and shirts. The maximum I could get was level 16. The game definitely needs balance and randomization adjustments. Dot.

i started winning after i stopped the urge to play 'good poker hands' like I fancied Full House over Two Pair. Poker knowledge was holding me back :D
Now i really check whats my strategie and how to generate point with my given hands, not only hand by hand.

Also big mistake of mine, stubling into boss blinds and trying to force my previous strategie on them.
Now I check what boss i will be facing and start preparing and adjusting my strategie/jokers if needed

I just never get any good jokers at the beginning, and when I do, ONE boss just shows up at some point to completely ruin me. :/
Blind Reverend Feb 25, 2024 @ 3:04pm
Best is to have jokers +chips, then a mult that rises (like every time when you reroll the shop) and the last joker Multiplier X2, X1,5 or something like that and hope you don't meet "the wall" at ante 8.
I had the easiest runs with the deck that skips interest for hands and discards to get $$.

on base stake? you could be using tarots really badly, neglecting to buy vouchers, or having a joker setup that is lacking one of the three necessary elements between chips, plus mult, and times mult.
