The point of a demo is to generate hype.
Balatro Demo is different, it's the full game with 1/3 Jokers, all cards minus two available and run up to Ante 5. So devs have to remove it once the full game is out, or no one'll be buying.
on the opinion that "demos purpose is to generate hype", I disagree.
all games ought to have a demo version, like, let people play the tutorial at least, or the first level or get to the first boss and then kick them out.
if you make a demo version, just leave it out there. people will play it and then go for the full version if they like it, no?
the point is to let people try, before they buy, like a free sample.
so i guess only people who played it during nextfest get to try before they buy.. . and you believe that's a better business decision?
no wonder folks go . .elsewhere to find their gaming fix.
edit : and okay, if their "demo" was technically the "full game" , that would make sense to take it away.
aren't demo versions usually limited versions with the bulk of the content locked away? or like, the beta version?
i did look at the news and it said "you can play until you rack up 50 wins" or something to that effect, which does sound generous.
the thing is that this isn't the only game i have seen that took the demo away.
i didn't think a "demo" would be the same thing as the "free weekend" sometimes i see that on steam, a game will do a "free weekend" and let you play the full version for free for 3 days, but that's a whole other deal entirely.
I get it that not every game has a demo. it just annoyed me that it "had" a demo that got pulled.
