Matador doesn't work on 'The Tooth' blind
As a reminder the Matador joker says "Earn $8 if played hand triggers the Boss Blind ability".
"The Tooth" boss blind says "Lose $1 per card played".

Either it's a bug/oversight, or this should act as a warning to players.
You will NOT receive $8 for every hand* played, learned this the hard way by selling a good joker for the Matador...

I suppose this is for when there's a boss blind that says you must play 5 cards, for example, and you instead play less than 5. Normally none of your cards are counted towards the round score and this joker is probably to take away some of the pain.

So, Update. I actually bought and used Matador for the first time. I was wrong and I'm going insane with confusion.

The flint, which halves your base mult and chips, triggers Matador every time you play a hand. My deduction goes into the trash just like that...
Hmm well then I don't know. It seems to just work on a case by case basis ar this point, then...
Yeah, can confirm it just does nothing. Not even one trigger, let alone every card played on The Tooth
I have currently the "The Tooth" boss blind and the "Matador" joker does not trigger at all.

On the steam shop site of Balatro is says "Break The Game!". Well, I would like to but this just seems like false advertising.

My lawers will take care of that. Lawsuit is incoming.

However, if the developer fixes the error, I will drop the lawsuit. ;)
The wording is so ambiguous for that joker that I've never taken it.
Just to update: 1) the text on Matador is still a statement that, if used in conversation, would clearly communicate that the card can be used to generate money from The Tooth. 2) the Matador still does not generate money from The Tooth.
The game logic on it not working on the tooth is because the boss ability is utilized prior to the hand being scored.

1. You submit the hand,
2 The Tooth charges for each card submitted (regardless if they are used in the scoring hand) - this is when the boss ability triggers.
3. The hand is then scored. This is when Matador looks for ability being triggered. Since the ability triggered prior to hand scoring, you do not get credit.

So technically the boss ability is not affecting the 'Played hand', its affecting the 'cards used', therefore not eligible.

It is definitely confusing and non-intuitive, hopefully it gets a little rework in the future.
It is still the played hand that triggers the effect, regardless of whether it scores or not, since it triggers regardless. It should say "scoring hand" if that is what they mean, and it is a wording they use elsewhere.

Scoring Hand wouldn't work either, since debuffed cards trigger Matador as well. And those cards are debuffed by the boss when they're drawn, not after the hand is played, so Aelender's justification doesn't really work anyway even though his explanation is true. Sure, it is how it works in practice, but not how it should work - AKA a bug.

Yes, but also no. A debuffed card doesn't trigger Matador until you play it and it's part of the scoring hand (not an unscoring card). But it's an apt comparison.
