The Arm is anti-fun
EDIT: This post is completely irrelevant since the game was balanced on this topic like a year ago

I see this a lot, and I don't disagree, it can gut a run as this game is all about focusing and synergy - the eye punishes this enough, but at least you can work around it

I also hate water, no discards so, good luck on the draw

I think there's worse bosses lol

I just had a similar run in with "the arm". I survived (didnt my first time I got that blind) but it killed my one pair celestial level up cards. I managed to keep going with two pairs leveled up for a long time but ultimately lost. It was really only kept alive by a joker that increases Mult each time you play a hand so I had played Two Pairs 34 times by the end.

I think I found one celestial card to get one pair back to lvl 1 from 0.

You can technically play a hand as a discard if you got a super powerful hand so a lot of builds still work with it

Water yeh, if the decks pokey enough/lucks working it generally goes through OK

Arm will gut runs - it's the only perma debuff

Water does lean a lot more into RNJesus, but sure knowing what to 'play' as a discard can get you enough, but water tends to be tight on hands

The Arm really is a run-ender of a boss. Tools to re-roll blinds need to be more present, or this particular boss needs to be tuned. I think capping the hand level reduction to level 1 instead of level 0 could also work.

Aye, that's it - the challenge isn't the issue inasmuch as the permanent debuff. I'd rather lose because my deck isn't up to scratch, than potentially take a permanent blow that will mean I spend another 15 mins before the deck succumbs due to the loss of momentum

I'll play some more runs with it but it is looking like an auto-quit for the time being

this boss does suck, but i think it would only really be crippling really early in a run, but I have a feeling alot of bosses are. it also makes abilities like boss re-rolling much more useful. and planet card packs aren't too expensive thankfully.

maybe it could have a slightly lower chip amount to offset how many hands you have to play.
I don't see a problem with that boss. I play poker hands that I don't focus on that run or eventually play my main poker hand once so I lose 1 lvl. You see which boss you will face at the beginning of ante so you can prepare for that fight.

this is the strategy i've used for The Arm, i've beaten it twice and i believe one of those two runs was a game win.

Need to get the: re-roll boss voucher.
Yanfly Feb 21, 2024 @ 11:18am
Agreed. The Arm would be a lot better if the effects aren't permanent and are limited to just that battle.
Scipione Feb 21, 2024 @ 11:33am
yep, this boss just demotivates

I played two runs where it was the second boss of the game. I found it to be absolutely devastating as it's far enough in where you can't win with trash, but also early enough that you're not likely to deal with the boss in one hand of your strategy. (Unless you have the god run from your luck with purchases.)

Easiest fix will be that reduced level doesn't carry over to the next run, or limit level reduction to just 1 level.
