How do I unlock the stake difficulties?
I just won my first game with the red deck, and that unlocks the red stake difficulty.
Am I supposed to unlock the blue/green/black stake by winning with the blue/green/black deck? Or do I need to win a game with higher difficulties?

if you win a difficulty with a deck, you unlock the higher difficulty for that deck. unlocking red stakes for the blue deck doesn't unlock red stakes for the black deck, for instance.

I see... thanks

I really wish it were for more than that one deck...this is the most insanely slow ascension climbing I've ever seen.

It's 8 winning runs for 15 decks, for a total of 120 runs. The Binding of Isaac has 17 characters that each need to beat 6 runs- though you have to do all of them in hard mode too. And that's not all unlocks, you have to do some optional stuff too for a total of 17*11 = 187 hard mode runs to unlock everything with all the DLC, or something in that ballpark... maybe more IDK what tainted characters are, I never bought the later DLCs.

Anyhow, isn't more gameplay for your money a good thing?

The difference is that it's difficulty levels, not content. (The marginal difficulty increases are guaranteed to trigger way before you get comfortably able to beat a lower difficulty in Isaac). I like to play games at the difficulty level that is a struggle to beat, that's just how I like to play. In this game, that's not possible without a huge grind which is just dumb.

Yes the game is very very grinding, if you don't get lucky with the RNG you get bothered after a couple of hours and have to play something else, or do something else, take a breather. Otherwise you get fed up.

they get much harder quickly and easier difficulties will be harder with to begin with when you're playing worse decks against more advanced stakes.
