#2, play Anaglyph deck, skip tags that double your money, or others that can potentially be even better at some point late game.
This type of build has worked for me as well.
It's counterintuitive perhaps but the most effective way to get insanely high scores is to trigger small 1.5x and 2x mults over and over. You can go with a hand full of Steels or Glass or whatever works with the jokers you've acquired. Mold and shape your deck with Tarots and if you are lucky you'll get the DNA joker which is the bomb diggity for this type of strategy.
This is the way.
A deck full of steel kings with red seals will take you very very far with this. Have a few with purple and blue seals to farm tarots (to copy the steel kings) and plutos.
Having unlocked Anaglyph deck, you were indeed correct about it being a good base. Plasma deck on the other hand is incorrect. That deck is only good for early game. It struggles late game.
Just getting +chips is easy mode. It can even get you to an ante 8 win if your chips jokers are decent. But at some point you want to transition to (possibly a mult joker and lots of) xmult, just like usual, and the moment you start switching can spell your doom. But mult has way higher score potential, at which point getting into e-notation scores is easier on this deck than any other. And because of that, it is very much the easiest deck to get the ante 12 and 100m score achievements.
So no, Malogoss was not incorrect telling you to use Plasma Deck.
That being said, creating an effective Plasma Deck build and adapting it into early to mid to late game requires proper knowledge of usable synergies (notably glass/steel cards + retrigger Jokers + scaling Jokers) and having your fundamental gameplay skills (when to pick Blinds, how to spend your money, and how to actually discard effectively in Poker) up to par. And even if you think you know your stuff, it can still fail if the game doesn't give the stuff that you actually want until it's too late (just like any other deck).
When it comes to $400, it's actually more about luck since the strongest stuff like Tags (+25 after boss is extremely strong in early game), Vouchers (sales and interest), Tarots (Hermit, Temperance, Death, Magician), and Spectrals (Gold Seals, Destroying cards for +20, Enhanced Cards) are more random than Jokers since they can't be rerolled, so I wouldn't worry about it too much and just focus on doing strong scoring builds as fast as you can and only then start aiming for big money.
Also, it might not seem obvious, but Gold Cards themselves are actually hard to use for gaining money since you can't neither play nor discard them, so they heavily weaken your score potential and make it hard to survive longer (which is the key to achieving $400). Gold Seals are the opposite of that, put them on your key cards and money keeps racking up naturally (especially if your build utilizes retrigger Jokers).
For the deck pick, Plasma works well since it's easier to play longer (even past Ante 12) while Ghost gives you more Spectrals and Zodiac gives you more Tarots (not as useful since you can buy the Voucher with other decks as well).
