Delayed Gratification for the constant rapid money
DNA can make runs so easy I'd probably take it regardless of eternal status, although getting to sell it at some point once your deck is fully stacked is of course better. Any xMult joker is good as eternal, but the only xMult common that can be eternal is Photograph, which is kinda mid.
Conversely, I wouldn't take any economy joker as eternal unless I'm playing high stakes and will most likely lose the run anyway unless I get income rolling.
Cavendish and Gros Michel both have the eternal_compat flag set to false, so it should never appear as eternal on any difficulty.
The only up-side is that Ankh and Hex can't destroy them either.
To that end, Stencil.
I'm asking which would you pick anyway.
Who thinks scary face is worth it. I mean it's a lot of coins. I need mult but i can make a lot of coins work while waiting for mult.
OP specifically asked about common jokers, Stencil's uncommon. Not sure limiting the topic that much is very beneficial, but at least it makes you think instead of picking obvious choices. Although any polychrome can become an obvious choice real fast.
Scary Face can be worth it. I usually want one chips joker even in endgame, and iScary's a good one as long as your deck is geared to face cards. Same for Odd Todd, which is the same but for more cards.
If it actually looks likely that I can swing the deck that direction, any of the ones that reward specific suits or ranks (including scary face and the odd/even ones) can be run-defining jokers that I would want to hold on to for the whole game anyways.
If I already have the other half of the combo, and haven't already pivoted away from face cards, hanging chad+photograph is worth taking as eternal.
Anywhere in the first 2-3 antes I'd probably also take an eternal Gold Joker. Yeah it's not ideal later on, but the cash flow is enough to make up for it and is still not completely useless even at the end.

Strong to begin with (repeatable/stackable mult +13s), but with the right synergies (looking at you, steel queens) you can get a setup to where it can beat ante 8 with a freaking high-card.
