Which commons would you slam pick if they were eternal
I can't find anyone making a list anywhere. Any card can be worth it in the short term but which would you marry. Half-joker?

Cavendish for that easy 3x
or
Delayed Gratification for the constant rapid money

would an eternal gross michel still die or are you stuck with it, and no cavendish?

Slam picks differ between stakes. Delayed gratification becomes worse when you always have -1 discard, while Burglar becomes better.
DNA can make runs so easy I'd probably take it regardless of eternal status, although getting to sell it at some point once your deck is fully stacked is of course better. Any xMult joker is good as eternal, but the only xMult common that can be eternal is Photograph, which is kinda mid.

Conversely, I wouldn't take any economy joker as eternal unless I'm playing high stakes and will most likely lose the run anyway unless I get income rolling.

Cavendish and Gros Michel both have the eternal_compat flag set to false, so it should never appear as eternal on any difficulty.

TBH I'm not sure any jokers actually benefit from being eternal. You can't kill them with the Ceremonial Dagger (i.e. it never triggers and the dagger doesn't upgrade) so... Eternal is actually a debuff as you can't sell things or feed them to other cards.

The only up-side is that Ankh and Hex can't destroy them either.

To that end, Stencil.

Yeah that's why I asked. When I see an eternal joker, i don't want it. Even if i want it, i want the same joker but not eternal. I hate seeing the eternal card blipbloop and eat my polychrome tag i sacrificed a paying blind for.
I'm asking which would you pick anyway.

Who thinks scary face is worth it. I mean it's a lot of coins. I need mult but i can make a lot of coins work while waiting for mult.

Also synergizes with Madness. Picking Madness early on black stake and above is fun, just gambling you get eternals. It generally doesn't get as crazy as a Vampire run with the right setup, but it's still damn good.

OP specifically asked about common jokers, Stencil's uncommon. Not sure limiting the topic that much is very beneficial, but at least it makes you think instead of picking obvious choices. Although any polychrome can become an obvious choice real fast.

Scary Face can be worth it. I usually want one chips joker even in endgame, and iScary's a good one as long as your deck is geared to face cards. Same for Odd Todd, which is the same but for more cards.

I don't think there's any at common rank that I'd take unconditionally, but many that I'd take if I already had a thing they combo with.

If it actually looks likely that I can swing the deck that direction, any of the ones that reward specific suits or ranks (including scary face and the odd/even ones) can be run-defining jokers that I would want to hold on to for the whole game anyways.

If I already have the other half of the combo, and haven't already pivoted away from face cards, hanging chad+photograph is worth taking as eternal.

Anywhere in the first 2-3 antes I'd probably also take an eternal Gold Joker. Yeah it's not ideal later on, but the cash flow is enough to make up for it and is still not completely useless even at the end.

Ride the bus, mystic summit, abstract joker, and as you said half joker. Assuming you mean early on (ante 1-2), these are all strong early game (with the partial exception of ride the bus, which will take a round or 2 to become totally relevant) that won't fall off too much in the late game. You COULD take an eternal misprint, but I find that's more of a begrudging compromise than a slam pick.

The main one that's got my attention is Shoot the Moon (How is this a common?!)

Strong to begin with (repeatable/stackable mult +13s), but with the right synergies (looking at you, steel queens) you can get a setup to where it can beat ante 8 with a freaking high-card.

Red Card is a fun eternal if you get Madness
