Well it was a game
I am convinced I will get no more wins and am deleting Balatro for good. The game is fairly well set to stymie even the "luckiest" start. I say this after getting a 5th win in hundreds of games. It just feels like an empty never ending experience of not winning with an extremely rare exception of "oopsIdidn'tevenmathtowinthis"

Yeah, you can have the best combo of jokers ever...and yet the hand you're given is crap, you do some discards, and it's still crap...and then you're screwed. -.-

That's how my runs mostly end.
Sounds like you need to either focus more on tarot packs, or less on 5 card hands. It's probabilities, you need to either maximize your chances of getting what you need, or in some cases can even guarantee it. If you're always maximising your odds of success and still failing you're either doing it wrong, or maybe some religion is right and their particular god hates you.
Also don't sleep on hand size, that stat makes your ability to maximise a lot more potent. If you need a 5 card hand, have 4, and can only discard 3 you're a lot less likely to get what you need than if you can discard 5. That's why a lot of powerful options cost hand size, they're high risk high reward. That's why smaller hand plays are preferred on gold stake, which in turn is why people who claims flushes are OP fail so often.
It doesn't matter what hands you play, flushes, full-houses, two pair...I've tried everything...the game WILL screw you over at some point, and on a super rare chance you might win.

Losing 3-5 games in a row is normal to a game like Balatro, 'cause you of course have RNG to deal with and a bad boss blind or draw could end your run. If you can't win after like 100+ games, I really think you're playing it wrong.

Here's my suggestion: Make a new Profile, Unlock All and try playing the Checkered Deck. Of all the starting decks, this is the single most "beginner friendly" as it's only 2 suits so Flush is almost always guaranteed.

I decided to reinstall and try one more run to see if what you all have said had any impact. The answer is a resounding no. I managed to once again lose at the last Ante Boss. Getting to 70k was too hard even with 5 hands. I don't think it was bad luck at all. I had a bunch of good jokers and an absolute ton of enhanced cards and could not get there.

Im curious. Did you save a screenshot? Would want to see it or maybe post the seed

I did not. I tend to avoid screen shots in Steam because the client handles them so poorly and I don't like having to host them myself. That said, I did retry a few more times because compulsive (I guess) and won on the 2nd run after that.

My last winning run had a number of very good Jokers: starting ones were Abstract, Vagabond, Constellation, Steel and Smily Face. Then got a hold of Loyalty Card (Neg), and Popcorn (Neg) which disappeared by Ante 8 but by then found Four Fingers and Red Card. Managed to get the last up to +36 mult before hitting the final Boss. My final single hand high score was well over 1m. Unfortunately fell off at the Boss of Ante 11 which needed 75mil

Nice! Those are good cards, except for the Vagabond but I'm assuming you are using that to get more tarot cards to buff up.

Also I score around 1 million the most and got up to Ante 10-12 so yea.

Hopefully something tick that you kinda understand how it works.

That said, its another ballpark for getting super high scores though. That I cant help you with lol
never seen more of a skill issue, im only 8 hours in and already have 2 wins and many more games that were close but i fumbled due to not paying full attention. It's actually pretty easy to be consistent in this game even though there is rng involved.
Reading these comments about luck I roflmfao because LUCK does not exist, I burned out after only 6 hours as the game is a useless pile of dross and I want a refund.:steamthumbsdown::steamthumbsdown:
Are we talking about Blue Stake and higher difficulties or just the normal White Stake? The high stakes are very RNG dependent, but you can win just about every white stake run once you get a feel for the game over several hours, which is how the "roguelite" formula works.

yeah, at white stakes it is super balanced. higher stakes are meant to break you, designed on purpose.
Been playing challenges and I won the first 4 without a loss, it really isn't just luck. There are runs that you can't win but they are few and far between. I promise that if you post a seed that you lost, an experienced player will be able to win it.

None taken, despite the usual inference that the person being referred to is an idiot. :p

I have said multiple times in this thread that I was finding the skill part hard.

That said having been convinced by some good advice posts here I did persist and obtained a few more white stake deck unlocks. Blue and Black decks done.

For the person who asked for my seed #s here are my last two black deck #s: SJALPM83 (lost at ante boss 8) and TQ969AN5 which featured Egg in the first store plus a $4 buffoon pack which yielded a foil mad joker. 2nd round store had Throwback and after that I started skipping blinds (2nd Ante forward) I think I got the Egg to 8 value then sold it and also bought Credit Card and went into negatives after each boss for a bit. After all that I eventually stabilized with a positive interest earning $$ pile and smooth sailing till Ante Boss #10.

So still not quite grokking it all but definitely I saw some improvement in how I managed my jokers and $$ and boosters.
Trying to win with the black deck has killed my motivation to play lol
yeah, that's just how these games are.

some examples - since i cant really use balatro cause it clicks with me and i have black stake wins on some decks already in under 8 hours - it took me like 60 or 70 hours of game time to get a single win in FTL on normal, and i have i think 3 wins out of 150 games? a single win on Rift Wizard in 14 hours (so about 25ish games?)

these games just hate you and dont want you to play them lol

I don't think this is a luck problem but a skill problem. I am missing something inherent in the game to progress. I think it is pretty obvious that luck plays a small part since even a very lucky start ends in a deadend ante7-8 most games. Very rarely does it become a win.

Luck plays the *largest* part. It doesn't matter how good you are if you're not seeing a LOT of xMult Jokers and the "right" planets, not to mention being able to afford them at the right times and be able to transform your deck on top.
