[Bug] Cannot use hex spectral card with my joker

Why would it not work, because it can only select 1 joker?
Why should the developers deliberately screw up the players that would plan to do this in the first place? (in my case it just happened randomly)

In that situation, Wrath is actually a really good choice.

I'm assuming its because you had no valid targets that could have polychrome added to them as you only have 1 joker and it already has a negative edition. Though if you were expecting it to overwrite I agree it isn't overly clear. If you had had one joker without edition it would have worked fine.

It would be nice if it could overwrite the other effects like how tarot cards overwrite cards.

I guess this means that hex never selects cards that have other editions?

Since I just went through the code for another thread: yes. Hex, Wheel of Fortune, and Ectoplasm all check if there are standard edition jokers and pick one of those, they never overwrite.

That could actually either (a) suck or (b) result in having more jokers owned than allowed (i.e. if you have 6/6 jokers and it turns a Negative into Polychrome, you now have 6 jokers out of an allowed 5).

But hex destroys all other jokers, how would it suck if a negative joker was hit or let players have more than the allowed amount?
