Stakes should be universal.
With 15 different decks across so many difficulties, I think it's fair to say that if you've reached Gold Stake on one deck you should have them on other decks.

I felt immensely accomplished for completing Red Deck on Gold Stake, but having to go through every single Stake just to complete one deck was exhausting. I don't think I want to keep doing that for all 14 others.

It is a strange decision. In just about every other Roguelike I've played, once you unlock a higher difficulty it applies to all of your "classes." Seems like it's just trying to make the 100% longer for no reason. It's already a pretty addicting game and this addition is definitely unnecessary.

It sure would feel less grindy, if difficulties could be unlocked universally, especially since purple and gold feel quite a bit more RNG-heavy.

I guess the inspiration must've been primarily Slay the Spire, where each class has their own "Ascension" ranks unlocked independently. IIRC Monster Train had it's "Covenant Ranks" be universal which did help keep things fresh, but it still gave some reward for doing lower ranks (shiny gold frame cosmetics for cards in your deck at the end).

in theory I get where you're coming from, but I think in reality all this would do is let players figure out the deck they are best with and then beat all the stakes with that deck, and essentially skip all the stakes with other decks, as opposed to how it is now, where we need to figure out the best way to use each deck to climb the stakes.

This would make sense if not for the fact that RNG at higher stakes is a much larger factor in determining success than variation in deck ability.

Depends on the playstyle I guess? With most decks I have a certain few builds I will go for and just fail the run if RNG sucks. Adding more RNG on top of it makes each deck playthrough pretty much the same strat-going for a certain build. Having eternal Jokers, higher prices or smaller hand doesn't change that. I'd rather just unlock all stakes for all decks, so I can just challenge myself with each deck on orange instead of having to roll the dice for like 100 stakes that are more forgiving.

Yes I know; that's just an expanded explanation of what my statement implied! Higher stakes reduce the relevance of the deck being used...

I'm agreeing with OP and yourself, and disagreeing with sab0t xD

If you want to challenge yourself, just use the Unlock All button.

I've seen people arguing this over and over, but the best answer I could come up with is "you DON'T need to grind, just unlock and have fun".

it has become so tedious to play.

I like it the way it is. Why be in such a hurry to play on Gold Stakes on every deck? More fun imo to work your way up with each one a la Slay the Spire.

In Slay the Spire, each character offers a dramatically different experience. Most of the decks in this game are not unique enough to force significantly different strategies and warrant unlocking every stake on every single deck.

Again my question is, why be in such a hurry to unlock them all? What benefit does it give you?

I've cleared all 4 at A20.
It's not fun doing every single ascension.

I think that learning gets incredibly skewed in this early phase of ascending. Things you don't take into consideration at lower stakes suddenly becomes more punishing at higher ones. And then you tack it all on one by one only to just forget it all for the next deck until you make your way back up.

I don't want to just press the "Unlock All" button because I also want to get achievements as I play the game. And as it turns out, there's not really any achievements linked to climbing stakes aside from your first clear at each one.

Again, that's just how I see it.
