Ancient joker selecting suit i dont have?
Guessing its a glitch as The Idol only selects cards from your deck. Its a stupid inconsistency if intended, why would one joker follow a completely different logic when they are extremely similar?

Because one joker is 1/4 at all times versus 1/52 in an unmodified deck?

So its just supposed to be a mid game card? As late game it will just completely fall off.

No, because nothing about late game forces you to have only one suit. Do you think Flower Pot is a bad joker too?

Idk in my first win with checkered deck Ancient joker only selected Hearts and spades. though I never got it again running checkered.

Late game, yes of course? Being forced to play 4/5 of a kind, full house or a straight unless you have Splash (or whatever the one that scores all played cards). 3x mult late game is pretty bad. But its okay as its clearly a mid game joker, meant to beat Ante 8. You arent going to rely on RNG in late game. The Idol is great because you can manipulate the deck. If you happen to have 20 diamond aces all of which are polychrome glass, it would pop of like crazy. Secondly ancient joker is only 1.5x while the idol is 2x.

Any x3 joker is considered "good", the easy to use ones with few downsides/easy to trigger are only x2 (e.g. The Tribe, The Duo, Seeing Double), and the only ones that have more than x3 are The Family and Loyalty Card. Any scaling xMult joker isn't comparable, they're entirely better or worse depending on if you can feed them.

Idol just has a harder time triggering under most circumstances, unless you actively mess up your suit balance. Plus Ancient triggers on any wildcard. So it gets some debuffs to balance it out.

Nah it for sure can pick suits you don't have, you just got really lucky on a sequence of coinflips.
Having Ancient to randomly pick an available suit every time (just like idol works) would be more fun in my opinion. You still run a big risk trying to remove one/two of the suits that until all of them are gone the joker could at any point select a suit where you have 1-3 cards being a useless joker for that round.

Even when you're able to remove/change cards so that 50% of your deck is a single suit, that would still be a 50% coin flip every round for a suit you don't want, that gets increasingly better for every card you manage to switch over to the one you want to proc. To me it sounds like more fun trying to get down to 3 suits only, 2 suits only and ofc the risk with encountering the boss blinds that comes with it. And of couse a major buff for specifically this joker for one deck, but I think that's fine.

The point of Ancient Joker working the way it does, is for you to play a deck with 4 suits evenly distributed (so basically, the base deck), and play the suit required each round. To make it work more consistently you only need additional +hand size and/or +discards, kinda like a straight deck. Alternatively, you can proc it more consistently with the Smeared Joker or with Wild cards.

It's a very different joker from the Idol, despite first glance similarity. One require heavy deck manipulation, the other doesn't but need hand consistency.
