I beat Ante 8 in 2 hours...??

Feeling a little... idk... sad? Everyone hyped this thing up like it's crack cocaine and such a challenge even to get past the first few antes
After just 2.1 hours I got to 9/8 ante and and didn't really feel like there was a reason to keep going??

idk - guess I expected there was more to chase?

Getting new cards is cool and all, but is there another benchmark to shoot for?

You beat easy mode (white stake), there's 8 difficulties (up to gold stake).
It's a game for playing a run or two every time while challenging yourself in some way, or going for a high score, not something you beat once.

didnt even see that. i thought it just became endless antes.

was just surprised as some of my steam friends have 15-20+ hours without beating ante 8 lol

Also, once you beat ante 8 five times, you will open up challenge levels with specific decks and conditions to beat.

There's a bit of luck involved, but mostly the people who can't win a run on white stake are just playing really badly. Stuff like not using interest and/or economy jokers, not realizing that x3 mult isn't the same as +3, not knowing how to manipulate their deck effectively, not knowing how to deal with some bosses, etc.
Getting your first winning run within an hour or two is pretty normal for people who can figure things out. It's not until you go past about halfway up the difficulties that luck becomes a major component.

And there are five or six different ante-8 bosses to beat.
And getting win stickers on every joker.
And of course more deck types.
And finding every joker.
And more challenges.

There are 7 additional stakes (difficulty levels) waiting for you for each deck and a ton of other fun stuff to explore and unlock.
E.g. you unlock a Joker by discarding a Royal Flush ^^

I would never actually do that in a real run, but that's pretty funny.
Not that I've gone through the list of locked jokers to see which ones I don't have and their unlock requirements (the only other one I know about is $400 because it came up on the main menu screen).

Haha, got a Royal Flush build with the plus Hand Size deck. Played 5 Royal flushs in a row and discarded one for funs, still couldn't beat ante 12 xD.

higher stakes, challenges, endless, or yes just for fun to see if you can make different builds or concepts work. even without all the extras, 5 card poker is a classic game that people have played forever. i don't understand these checklist gamers. do you enjoy games at all or are you just compelled by some anxiety to check boxes and complete tasks.

"Checklist" for me is more along the lines of "how much time-energy do I have to put in to get this?" and if that question's answer is too high, I ignore it. So I won't be going for Completionist+ or Completionist++

But I do want to unlock every joker.

It's not the kind of game where you beat it once and then it loses its appeal. It's more like Slay the Spire where the first time you beat it is when it's just starting to get interesting and fun.

I'm in the same camp as you, but really not sure how much patience I'll have for finding the last couple of legendaries when these already rare soul spectrals keep giving me duplicates!

I beat ante 8 on my very first run.... granted, I had played a lot of the demo and lucked out with Cavendish on that run, but I still have yet to get every deck. Working my horizontally, trying to get every deck on every stake. Got red on most of them, green on some, black on a couple.
