Why is this not a straight flush?

Effectively, you're asking why 7 8 9 10 14 isn't a series of 5 consecutive numbers.
Jack is 11, Queen is 12, King is 13. Ace can be 1 or 14.

Numerically it is worth/counted as 1 or 11. But sequentially it is the 14th card in the suit. Which may be unintuitive if you also realize that it stands a 1 in 52 card playing card decks.

It should be noted that you can actually make A,2,3,4,5 street, but not K,A,2,3,4.

In blackjack, Ace counts as 1 and 11, but usually only in blackjack

Side question: why do face cards only score 10 and an ace only score 11, instead of jacks scoring 11, queens scoring 12, kings 13 and aces 14? Is it a balance thing? Is it to do with gender equality (and thus that queens are just as valuable as kings)?

Mostly balancing I assume, in fact until a few weeks before release aces were 10 as well.

Could be because of BJ.
I mean the Dev of this game admittedly doesnt play a lot of poker(if at all). Might be he plays BJ and took the numbers from there.
Might also just be balanced this way.
