Thoughts on Foil/Polychrome Jokers

Really enjoyed my time with the demo, managing to win the last round before running out of playtime, but I am a little worried about the spikiness of power that comes with enhanced jokers.

The Jokers themselves are really cool and lead to some fun decisions for what you steer your deck towards, but having rarer upgraded variants that add +50 base chips or X2 final mult to every hand you play feels like a little much with how they end up stacking, so being able to have a passive X4 (or higher) total score bonus is kinda nuts considering how the other multipliers and bonuses add up.

The game is seemingly balanced around this, as the final Ante was still relatively close considering I had +100 base chips and X4 total mult to every hand, which was a relatively massive portion of my score.

I could be misunderstanding how it all shakes out and I'm not gonna call it poorly balanced with so little hands on time and only 2 runs, was just wondering what everyone's thoughts on something like this are, and how rare these upgraded jokers are relative to otherwise, as I had 3 slot shops with more likely chances for them and still ended up with only 2 of each by the end of the run, which makes them feel both necessary and rare.

I had the same experience.

Polychrome Jokers are both OP, and necessary to win. They're so powerful, they're usually better than jokers you spent the whole game building around.

I haven't had the benefit of polychrome jokers and I'm out of rounds so I can't even try to build around one now. I got as far as Ante 8 (50,000) in my second run, and did not manage to beat it because I did not have a build that focused on mult or had shinies.

I think there's probably a balance issue there, but overall I really like where the game is and just need more of it in my eyeholes.

If you don't mind starting over from the very beginning, you CAN create a new user account on your device and play a further 50 rounds that way. Also, the round counter reset with the new update.

I got 2,000 score shy of the big blind on Ante 9 without any special jokers but I had a very OP joker combo that gave me 120 chips and 100 mult every hand regardless of what I played

Yeah I agree with this general sentiment. I think balance-wise it would be best for the game to nerf the special "card variations" a bit, like having Holo cards give 5 Mult instead of 10, and then also lower the Ante requirements. As it is right now you pretty much need luck in finding special cards with useful effects or you need to take advantage of some insane synergy.

I just beat Ante 8 for the first time and I haven't discovered polychrome. That's how I found this post actually, I wanted to know what it looked like.

screenshot really doesn't do it justice as you can't see the rainbow color transitions as the card moves around in the game, but this gives a bit of a preview of what it looks like
