Strange, I was crying manly tears of joy at the end. I thought it was a pretty happy ending to a action/mystery/romance story.
The way I see it (because I watched the credits till the end) they are 'living' happily ever after in that County/Afterlife.
The lyrics to the song also made it easier to appreciate:
Yeah, no alternate ending. I was a bit disappointed, I loved how Bastion's multiple endings were both canon and rolled into the story so neatly. I would very much have liked to see this method return for SG's second release, but alas.
True, it's not the Afterlife in a traditional sense, especially considering their default reality (the Cloudbank plane of exsistence) "repeats" itself through endless recursion (which Red mentioned in her lyrics and both Grant and Royce learned from experience)
I just liked how poetic they were with the duality of the word "Country". It was used throughout the game and it became a clear synonim for the afterlife (in my oppinion) when the narrator made a poor joke about how their bike was great for not getting destroyed like other bikes. After driving it into the current hot spot of the Process army it was obviously doomed to be destroyed eventually so he bid his farewell with "see you in the Country, bike" (or something like that)
He could have also just used the spoiler text.
You know - something like this? I don't understand people like you who defend people who post spoilers. Typing !!!SPOILER!!! doesn't prevent something from hitting the front of the community hub, as noted, or if someone were to mouse over the post on accident.
Spoilers just need to use spoiler text. Do that, and I don't think too many poeple would care what was typed.
