"Game won't start" solution
I've seen the whole "Game won't start" thread and I tried everything in it, but nothing would work (moving/copying stuff, compatibility, windowed, etc.).

I found my problem. Everything I tried starting the game with steam, it kept "setting up VCRedist for the first time". Then I tried installing it manually and it would fail because of denied access (even with admin mode).

Turned out I had to go to C:\ProgramData\Package Cache (ProgramData is a hidden folder). Right click the Package Data folder and give access to everyone (security / edit / full control).

The VCRedist installer was trying to access this exact folder, but could not have access to it so it failed. Everytime you tried starting the game with Steam, it would retry and fail once more. This solution allowed VCRedist to install correctly.

Have fun.

TLDR : go to C:\ProgramData\Package Cache (ProgramData is a hidden folder). Right click the Package Data folder and give access to everyone

I was playing transistor fine all day yestereday, but this morning it immediately crashes, and the friendly "Transistor has stopped working' message from windows talks about an error in Windows.MonoGame.Framework , an entry point not found.

I looked in the install folder, and the date modified of the Monogame dll is this morning.

Monogame is, according to the supergiant FAQ, their own fork of the project.

Im running GTX 765, i7, 16GB memory, WIndows 8.1

Anyone else had this issue?

It turned outmy _CommonRedist had a bunk download. So when I manually deleted it and reinstalled it took, and I could play.

official support answer is to try these steps:
1. First, please download and install the latest drivers for your graphics card. All the major manufacturers have released driver updates in 2014 which Transistor requires to run.
2. Next, close all other running programs.
3. Then please "verify the integrity of your game cache", which will try to detect file corruption and redownload them as needed. Instructions are here:https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=2037-QEUH-3335
4. If that doesn't work, try manually installing required installation files located here, by running them as an Administrator: ...Steam\SteamApps\common\Transistor\_CommonRedist
5. Finally, find Transistor.exe, choose "Run As Administrator", and double-click on it to launch the game outside of Steam. Try this in both the x86 and x64 folders.

worked for me.

Couple of additional steps:
- Try to run Steam as Administrator and launch game from it. Then, you can run it as usually. Game should somehow be initialized.
- Try to change permission on the folder "...Steam\SteamApps\common\Transistor\_CommonRedist" or wherever utilites setups are located.
