Would it make a difference if Red was a man?
Just for conversations sake, I was wondering whilst playing. Would it make a difference if Red was a guy or a girl? (Role flip flop) I mean of course generally women are more common singers, but this could have easily been a damsel in distress (sort of) character thing. I would love to hear your opinions on this. (btw at this moment I have gotten 5.8 hours into the game all limiters, to put perspective on where I am. Just made the bridge with the transistor)

Do you ask this question of every game? Like, what if Marcus Fenix was a guy or a girl?

That this question comes up at all is odd.

Well, for the story being told, the gender of the protagonist is fairly irrelevant. However, the discussion is more irrelevant, as Red is a woman, and that's that.
No, not really. You'd have a gay relationship or a very very personal bromance then, but it wouldn't change much of anything.

Not really. It's a common complaint that video games are very male-oriented, and that any woman in a game ultimately ends-up being pigeonholed into "damsel in distress" territory. The question being posed here is, if the genders were swapped in Transistor, and it was a guy running around with the Transistor and a woman locked inside it, would it be interpreted as being just another case of the typical male-dominated gaming sphere?

I'm not trying to make this controversiall, It is whether or not somthing effects the story. Is it a choice on behalf of the writers that actually mattered to the story? That is what I ask, not weather or not master chief was better a woman -.-

Well, we'd have less of a reasont to have Ashley Barett's wonderful voice throughout the soundtrack, so that would suck.

I haven't played the game yet, but I don't know if the game would change THAT much. The voice in the Transistor being in love with Red would possibly be altered a little.

I'm glad Red's a woman, myself. There's nothing wrong with male protags, but it's nice to play as a lady every now and then.

Gender equality is important and we must learn to respect one another.

beeing a man myself, i love that shes a woman. i will tell you the reasons:
1. bastion had a male main charakter. why not a female this time
2. the whole background story only works with a woman this well:

the transistor aka male narrator voice is her boyfriend, sacraficing his life for her at the beginning . doing it the other way round would be far less romantic, cause an indipendent woman filled with rage, using a weapon with the soul of her boyfriend.. well that has some edge to it, dont you think?
3. it was time for the most beatifull voice involved in the production of supergiants games to get a main part in a game. this way they could include her but because of the story she still remains mostly silent, which is nice because i like those silent heroes.

Is that ever explicitly explained? It's my understanding that his identity was meant to be unknown.

Nahhh, no offence to sex changer, gay-bi-pan-whatever-sexuals, sexuality of transistor characters is normal, and that's ok too ^^

Anymore weird questions? xD
