Bought the game a year ago or so, then took a break. Somehow, I feel this really is a autumn and winter season game (in a good way) :)
I beat the Spine allready, after I gave "Help" another try,.. you really have to spawn him more or less before you start the fight. Once it starts, you won't have a chance. And "Load", buffed up "Load" (+"Breach"+"Cull") does sooo much damage. Bit odd though; I feel like this really was the only way to do it, which is quite unlike this game so far. Usually there are more roads to Rome with this game.
One of my faves to use is Jaunt and Purge. It lets out a purge projectile per jump.
Another fave is Mask, Crash, Purge. You go invisible, have a aura that stuns and 3 purge projectiles fly around.
Those are my only two go to's for active abilities. Mask can save you if you use it after a Turn. It lasts about the same time it takes for you to regain your turn, giving you a "free" turn without getting hit.
The rest is really up to you, The game is really open ended in that you can use a variety of different loadouts. Try some in the Practice arena. You'll be surprised how strong you are early on.
I just finished my first playthrough this evening. Having a hunch where this was going I kept a glass of Bunnahabhain Mòine in reserve. I'm glad I did, I need it now,..
Regarding the gameplay you were right. The last part of the game was really easy, because of the functions I had available, and because I developped a better understanding of how they worked. I found Flood()+Get()&Purge() to be really powerfull in particular, while Breach()+Spark()&Mask() can one-shot almost anything if enough Void() is built up.
The only thing I never got to work so far is the Responsability limiter, but maybe on my second playthrough.
Hmmm,.. I never got Get() to work as a dedicated long range function, mostly because the "getting" part makes follow up shots somewhat problematic with non-stationary targets.
I guess that's also something that I should maybe try on my next playthrough.
Well, it wasn't much of a surprise. It was in fact simply a logical conclusion. That just made it perfectly fitting though, and it was still a heavy hitter.
