What's the difference between the shovel and the pickaxe?

I have been using the shovel for everything just because of the better stats. Is there really any need to make a pickaxe?

I suppose you brake your shovel faster when using it against solid rock and minerals, not sure thought

pickaxe seem to harvest more resources per block.. where the shovel works faster for a lesser return per block destroyed.

wooden are pretty much the same. As you get higher tiers you will notice significant differences between them trying to get dirt or stone.

Use a shovel to get somewhere deep fast, then use a pickaxe on the resources for max result.
