Lavender oil is the only detail/indicator that isn't different among the four men you have to select in the Old Town. Also he is the only NPC that responds differently than the three other men when you select him. When you return to the resistance after completing your missions in Macuria you can eavesdrop on the interrogation that will confirm whether or not you’ve selected the right person.

That's the one. Read the whole line. He smells of camphor, then our investigator wonders if it is lavender oil.

Make sure to read/listen to his entire dialogue. You should also probably turn on subtitles because Alvane will note at the end that the person that smells of camphor also has a hint of lavender.

Yea I realized that going back around, the audio for the character is so low at times I could barely hear him say that.
