So how is this game? Do choices actually matter?
So this is like a telltale game right? Can you actually see how your choice cause an effect?

Yes. You will get different dialogue depending upon your choices and some characters will leave or stay (help you or abandon you) depending upon your choices. Some characters will die as a result of your action or inaction causing them not to be available later on.

Edit: And be careful who you make out with it can change your sexual orientation and effect how other react to you.

The developers confirmed that this is not true.

I just finished book 1 and so far I'm loving the game. I hear book 2 picks up the pace a tad more, so that's gonna be awesome.

It is more than a telltale game. Your actions and dialog choices really changes things. The game is a drama by its genre. But you might turn it into a tragedy with incautious actions.

The Game is absolutely huge on choices changing the outcome of events but some events are plot restricted to obviously have a built story. There isn't any combat in the game, something dreamfall: TOJ was kind of lacking but is now completely absent. But Yes this game is now pretty much purely story driven and designed around your choices will make different outcomes.

in book one, the choice you made in the tutorial change the set of characters you meet and puzzle

(Not trolling, just trying to be honest. I can understand there are fans that think this is overreacting, but I actually feel this way towards the game)

It's not that the game don't change, but it insists too many times on the screen indicators when a choice has been made or when a choice changed something. At the end of the chapter you even get a recap. Too much information, game. Stop this.

On the "quality" of choices. Chapters one and two look promising and seem to have some meaningful choices, but chapter three and four have mostly stupid choices that won't change anything. And the game keeps insisting on telling you that you made choices, and it feels like the game is laughing at your face.

I'm sure chapter 5 (if ever comes out) won't disappoint, though, because nobody expects anything great actually.

We initially didn't have this when we released Book 1. All the choice/consequence mechanics was behind the curtain and the game just played out. The feedback was that the majority of players didn't even know that there was any choice/consequence mechanics in the game - it was too seamless - and some players felt cheated.

We then decided to make it more obvious when you make a choice, and when a result of a choice plays out. This kinda forces people to remember why something happened, and we believe it makes the storyline more interesting to follow.

It might not be the smoothest way of doing it, and I know some people feel it's too intrusive, but it's what we feel is best for the game. Just wanted to give some background information on why we ended up with it :)

I appreciate that, thank you.

At least for certain people, that's what it does better than Life Is Strange.
