The soundtrack is very good, and there's decent worldbuilding and stuff... but if you disliked the previous game, I don't think you'll see much improvement here.
The Longest Journey
Chapters
Dreamfall
The OG is a good game don't get me wrong but it is heavily dated, I enjoyed watching the scenes and reading the lore from the original more than trying to play it.
The Longest Journey (If I recall correctly) is the first game I ever reviewed on STEAM which to that point I never thought about doing. TLE holds a special place in my heart because it was one of the first games where I learned that story can be done well in games, in fact even be BETTER than a movie because of the interactivity.
Chapters is a good game too, I thouroughly enjoyed playing through it but it leaves you with a bitter taste in your mouth at the end.
I think a good analogue to this trilogy is Bioshock. While they are different types of game they both exceed with their story and characters, those two elements make a competent trilogy into an amazing one.
Bioshock, however, had a strong beginning (1), middling interlude (2) and an incredible finish (Infinite) whereas Dreamfall's best moments (IMO) were in TLE which leaves you feeling a little burned at the end.
Chapters biggest dissapointment to me was the ending. I don't want to spoil anything but it just leaves you with lots of questions and Deus Ex Machinas that made me upset. Givent he amount of time and support they had I was hoping for a all-accounts-closed ending.
You should play or at least read/watch the lore of the first, play the second and play the third if you're still invested.
As much as people (myself included) give Chapters crap it's still a good game and worth playing, it's just the weaker of an incredible trilogy.
