TLJ is a lot harder of a game than modern "adventure" games which basically lead you down a hallway to click on a hotspot to view a cutscene. It's more like Riven or another classic adventure game where you must combine inventory items to solve puzzels and do a lot of reading.
DF:TLJ is less difficult to play and more modern. It has a combat system that is a joke. But you can play it if you want.
"The Final Cut" a graphical / polish update for Chapters only. Chapters was already a sequel to the other two games (specifically Dreamfall, which ended on a cliffhanger than Chapters resolves.)
I would say yes, they're worth playing, although I am somewhat biased since I love this particular franchise ;) The older games are definitely showing their age, so if outdated graphics/sounds are an issue for you, then you might be happier watching a playthrough video. I think they're still good enough for playing, though.
TLJ is a classic point & click adventure game, so it plays very differently from Dreamfall/DFC. There's also a bug in the Steam version where confirmation windows appear as a blank white box. Kind of annoying, but you can get past them by pressing "Y" or "N" so it's manageable.
Dreamfall is basically the same as Chapters in terms of gameplay, just older graphics and somewhat ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ control scheme.
I remember trying a demo of Dreamfall: The Longest Journey long time ago. I liked it but I didn't end up buying the whole game. Now I will have a chance to play it, especially when all parts are bound together with the story.
