I'm happy to announce the Unbroken Demo is now live and available for Download.

It will be available for the next 2 weeks till the 2nd of May. Feedback would be very welcome, seeing as I would aim to address most frequently recurring reports and issues. First off, an important thing worth mentioning: the default visual style has been set for the steamdeck: Unbroken visual filter and and Gridsoft scanlines. These should have been off by default, but in order to save time and not postpone the demo further I decided to keep it for now. These can be easily disabled, or altered in the visual style settings.

Here's a clip of how a part of the demo can be played through.

One of the biggest challenges is onboarding: to get players aquianted with the games specific combat flow. There are lots of possibilities and not all of them are fully explained in the demo, but rather hinted. Currently decided to go with this route as to not interrupt the gameplay with constant info popups (and there are quite a few of these already).

Either way, things worth remembering:

• Use the resin to get an edge in combat: dodge bullets, take out packs of enemies and most importantly the resin kick
  
• Use the resin kick for one hit kills on regular enemies
  
• Throw your weapon when its out of ammo (ranged weapons you will hear a click): its useless, but a well placed/timed throw will stun an enemy and also interrupt most of their attacks, giving you some much needed room to breath (especially in the proving ground near the end of the war memory)
  
• Listen for the audio cue of enemies flintlocks and get ready to evade/dodge slide out of the way (or under the bullet for a adrenaline multiplier) or deflect with a melee weapon (deflection at the head or family jewels is a one hit kill)
  
• Ammo is scarce. Restock on ammo and resin whenever possible. So don't forget to pick up rifles from fallen enemies and keep your ammo count in check. If out of ammo in a life or death situation, just throw your weapon at the most lethal threat.
  
• At the war memory proving grounds, the sniper on the plank on the support beam can be taken out without using ammo. Throw your weapon at the support beam, to destroy it, which will make him fall to his death.
  
• Resinkicking an enemy into another one will stunlock him for a moment
  
• You can resinkick multiple objects into enemies for one hit kills (ie barrels, doors, church benches etc)
  
• In true souls-like fashion: unless you got a good grasp of the combat mechanics, don't rush into a pack of enemies: that's a recipe for a quick death
  
  
• For the steamdeck its important to set the Effects LOD to Low and disable v-sync
  
• To set custom framrates disable v-sync
  
• If you are getting slowdowns during action, particle effects, lower the Effects LOD setting and shadow distance
  
• It is not recommended to lower shadow distance below 20, as this is highly likely to break the visuals (light will have minimal obstruction

After the war memory, you will be taken to Nelsons Crossing. You will be able to take the Thieves Crossing route to Achthoven wharf, or take the FPS Fest carriage to an action levels preview loop. The demo also will have some unlocks and upgraded stats available from the getgo(weapons, special resin, wall jump, speed, heatlth etc). These will have to be unlocked in the maingame, either by purchases, doing quests or other means.

FPS Fest has just started and with that, the Demo will be going live real soon. It was initially planned to go live together with the event, alas due to a critical bug it had to be postponed for a bit.

Nonetheless, the demo will go live as soon as possible and will be available for 1 or 2 weeks.
It will consist of a nice chunk of gameplay: the War Memory tutorial as well as part of the main game (restricted to a small part of Nelsons Crossing) as well as a specially prepared action levels preview loop.

Regarding the Early Access Release, I've decided to push it back by around 2 months. The game is more or less ready for an Early Access release, however after PAX East feedback I came to the conclusion the game would need improved onboarding and introduction of gameplay mechanics and gameplay flow. This time will also be put to good use to polish up other areas in the game. Long story short: the extra 2 months will result in a major amount of polish for the Early Access Release and will only turn out for the better.

Expect a follow up announcement soon when the Demo goes live.

It's been a while. Unbroken is getting closer to release and with that dropping a preview video of the first 15 minutes of the upcoming demo.

The Demo will consist of the war memory tutorial / proving grounds. After that the player will continue from Coltons Rest in Crests Edge and can either proceed with the main game - as seen in the video via the path through the smugglers caves (or multiple other routes) - or try out the action level loop preview via the carriage as seen in the final part of the clip. The demo is expected to drop in April.

In other news, I'll be presenting the newest build at PAX East in Boston starting tomorrow till Sunday. So if you are in the neighbourhood and would like to check it out, come on over to the "Games from Poland" booth.

Unbroken is estimated to release in Early Access in late April / early May. Development is going along nicely and currently the game can be finished with 1 endgame. I plan on preparing an estimate roadmap for the Early Access for the next announcement here on Steam. In the meatnime feel free to ask away,

First, to put the big news out of the way. Unbroken will have its first public presentation at the upcoming PAX West Seattle. From the 1st -4th September the game will be playable at the Indie Games Polska booth, so hope to see you there!

The realm of Crests Edge is a large and diverse one. Featuring many biomes, classes and so forth, you will get to experience how the Township evolves with your ascension to your goal.

For it is worth noting: due to the severe case of classism in the realm, you will witness stark contrasts both in techonoligal advancement, architecture, style and attire as well as attitude and language of the characters you come across.

The lowest-poorest regions are similar to those of medieval times, whereas the higher you get the larger the technological gaps become. With the richest regions being more akin to industrial victorian / WW1 times.

Unbroken development is moving along nicely and today I'll be starting previews of the games features. We will start off with the games destruction system.

Destruction is based on caliber and speed of collision. So the stronger, thicker and faster the projectile, the more damage it will do to the destructible element. Also most destructible elements deal velocity based damage. Meaning the faster the larger chunks move, the more damage they do. So if timed right, the moment seen in the trailer with the horse statue: luring one of the bosses under the horse statue when it is collapsing has a chance of killing him instantly.

Other than that we got the standard door kicking breaking and entering (and killing the poor sap who was unfortunate enough to be on the other side). This will be helpful for clearing out hostile establishments and interiors, or scavening for food/health regen.

But there is a catch: if you break into an occupied house you will be reported, which in turn will lower your township rep. Get it low enough and the township watch will hunt you down. But factions and consequences are another story destined to be in their own feature preview.

In other situations destruction can prove to be a strategic opportunity, obscuring enemies line of sight and catching them off guard or it might open up a shortcut, or access to a seemingly impossible to reach area...

But most of all, the destruction is going to be fun! Thanks to the physics based destructive environments, no two playthroughs of a level will be alike. So hope you enjoyed this one, getting back to the dev and I'll see you on the next one!
