OMG WTH is this? post-boss fight message
I just noticed, after the magicia boss fight, when you get the coin, it says
"OMG What the hell is this!" after the "stage cleared" remark disappears.
Has anyone else noticed other such "vulgar" ;-) remarks in the game?

Yeah it seems if you hit space on any of the after boss screens, that message comes up:

I have no idea what its about though. Could juSt be smething left in the game by mistake or a hint towards some kind of easter egg/secret.

Someone's got some explaining to do...

It appears to be in all stages that bring up the Stage Clear message (so not in the Money Bin or the last level). Pretty sure it's just a funny easter egg and nothing more. It could also be a crack at today's censorship standards; I don't think 1989 Nintendo would have allowed that since they hardly allowed anything that could be considered vulgar or obscene.

Could also be a crack at the fact that the treasures themselves are pretty odd. The sceptre and crown I can understand, but green moon cheese and a slightly different shaped diamond? Or some random coin that looks a lot like the ones we found in the Amazon? The cheese alone probably elicits a "what the hell is this" response anyway, especially from the kids.

My thought is that it could be a programming line put in to catch instances where the proper message failed to display (or something unexpected happened with the display titles). Programmers often put in something like that to tell when something has gone wrong.

I take it to mean, "OMG, WTH is this doing here and not the Stage Complete message that was supposed to display!?"

I speak from experience that anytime I write something in code that I don't think the target user will be able to see, I can't resist writing something vulgar.

Just tried it again, I think they removed it in the last patch. Hang on to those screenshots, they may be worth a lot some day ;-)

Yeah, I tried it on several stages as I played through Extreme today, I think they removed it with the recent patch; i'm wondering if it was originally a placeholder and some treacherous developer/programmer snuck it in as an easter egg at the last second.

Sounds to me like a new internet meme is born.

It was most likely an error message. I do that when I write code, too. When I beat the Moon yesterday before the patch I didn't see this message.

Prior to the patch it was a triggerable easter egg by hitting space just before the "Stage Clear" text popped up.
