Remastered was probably approved only because they could market towards the nostalgia of the 25 and older crowd. Between gamers who have found memories of playing the NES version and the fact that it's a Disney platformer, I'm sure they figured it'd turn enough profit to make.
DT2 I don't think has that same pull because most people who played the original never played the sequel. It's not a reflection of it's quality, it's just that it doesn't have the retro nostalgia the first game did.
Ducktales 2, while a fantastic game, is also one that isn't very well known. The game came out in 1993, close to the end of the NES's lifespan ('94 I believe was when the last officialy liscensed games came out) and at that point most everyone had moved into the 16-bit generation of the SNES and Sega Genesis. It was largely overlooked as a result and sold rather poorly despite the game being amazing. The game is quite rare these days, fetching an average sale price of just over $100 with just the cartridge and upwards $800 for a sealed copy.
...I probably just pulled all that out of my ass, but the point remains. Ducktales 2 isn't well known enough to be at the top of the list for future Capcom-Disney remakes if any are happening.
Furthermore, going through 1993's other releases, there were some big games that came out that year: Super Mario All-Stars, Sonic CD, Link's Awakening, Secret of Mana, Kirby's Adventure, Star Fox, Myst, Ridge Racer, Doom, SimCity 2000; the list goes on, but you can sort of see why Ducktales 2 was overlooked.
...the Atari Jaguar...
i just dug up and played through both of the original nes titles.
the music was nowhere near as memorable as the first game. and the "updated" graphics just looked wrong, it felt like watching an off-model cartoon. i like that they tried to add in new moves for scrooge like pulling barrels with his cane and letting you jump and golf swing to get into some secret spots.
i think the whole thing with the shop in between levels and buying powerups was sloppy.
its kind of cool that they let you re-enter the stages and the end boss did make me laugh at the reference i was like "no way, they're really doing this?"
the "hidden level" was short and too easy, and the extra little bit it added to the ending felt not worth it.
the game was too easy, and the bosses were lame, except for the golem boss they all had the most simplistic a.i. patterns. the end boss was the easiest boss...Luther could kill the end boss of ducktales 2 and he killed The Gond..
the game felt really rushed and this isn't the only time capcom rushed out a game, look at megaman x 5 and 6, those ones came out within 6 months of each other, how can you make a playstation game in less than 6 months and not have it feel rushed?
that being said.
I would LOVE to see a ducktales 2 remastered. there's so much potential there. with the story elements like they could make the sorcerer boss at the end of the scotland level be the villain from the ducktales movie.
I really like the way they re-did the bosses in ducktales 1 remastered and the concepts of the ducktales 2 bosses are cool .., an undead duck pharoah, a duck golem, a p-p-p-p-p-pirate ghost, a frigging terminator duck...they should have blown the original bosses = a giant rat, the king of the terra firmies, a stone idol..away but capcom ruined them with crappy a.i.
the remastered version could fix all that
they would really need to re-do the musics because the musics in that game were generic and boring not at the level of quality you would expect from a capcom game. capcom games always had some of the best musics but ducktales 2 fell short.
p.s.
you frigging kidding me?! a ducktales 2 cartridge is $100?! i found mine in a thrift store for like $3...
its like a dumbed down megaman with a disney license.
if they remastered it, they would have to make a lot of changes, i suspect if they did a straight verbatim port, people would hate it.
darkwing duck is a much more difficult game than ducktales, i remember rage quitting on some of the bosses before i found the trick to them.
chip n' dales rescue rangers...i dunno, i played it as a kid and most of the game is just carrying around a box over your head and then ducking and hiding in it to avoid damage from enemies.
its a pretty easy game, although as a 8 year old, i did find the final end boss the only real challenge, because he drops 3 shots at you in a kind of spread pattern. and to the modern gamer its actually really easy but to an 8 year old it might as well be bullet hell.
talespin was kind of a side scrolling shoot em up
and then there was little mermaid
in any event, the formula they have here is to take an old game, redo it with modern graphics and animate it in the disney style and get the voice overs and the story elements and flesh out the stages more and fix the boss a.i. and add in like unlockable extras like the art gallery then they should be able to remake all of the disney-capcom games and sell them.
But what I really want is Rare and Wayforward to team up for a Battletoads (NES) Remastered.
