One more horrendous reason to not play with the English dub. He's even got that signature Californian "huff" at the end of every sentence when he's trying to sound edgy.

What was the reasoning on this? "Hiring a white guy to portray a Japanese man again would be racist, so instead we'll hire a Korean because... uh, those people are all basically the same I guess?"

Sega has one franchise that's not perennially on fire and this is the treatment it gets.

As for his acting. This is what happens when you let someone with next to no experience in the industry get given a role just because of his e-celeb status. An incredibly tone deaf decision by sega and the delaying of the English dub speaks volumes to how badly received his casting is.

As for why the original was taken down?

Well, AfroGamerDude eventually attracted the attention of the kind of gaming YouTuber fanboys (have to say this cos the last time I sent this to someone who also dislikes Yong, he thought I was *only* talking about Yong's fanboys. But in reality, I was referring to the people who worship HappyConsoleGamer, MetalJesusRocks, PeteDorr and ReviewTechUSA, as Afro made way more vids on those four than Yong) who would do anything to keep their Gods from being exposed for their greed, manipulations etc., and so said fanboys did one of the most scummiest things possible to Afro in their anger, which would be doxing him, his girlfriend, and his family.

Understandably, Afro left the internet for good after this, but not before taking all of his content down (and yet, his channel is still up for some reason).

It's not amazing but thankfully it's better than what I heard on OPs video. Singing sounds liked it was improved with auto-tune but still bearable. I'm interested in what he'll sound like when yelling though.

But as long as he sounds at least as decent as he does in that video, I think I can deal. Honestly Matt Mercer made me cringe during the reunion segment in Yakuza 7 and he is a VA celebrity. Maybe SEGA should get some pointers on choosing the right voice acting from ATLUS. They always seem to nail it with their SMT games. Well at least the ones I've played.

He's Californian, they probably had to process his voice to lower it 8 octaves just to get it in an audible range.

Imo, they should've gotten Troy Baker to voice Majima in Yakuza/Like a Dragon 7, and told him to use his Batman: Arkham Origins Joker voice. Y'know, considering how eerily similar it is to Mark Hamill's one.

Oh, and if you're curious as to who I would've picked to replace Darryl, I would've gone for either Keith David, or if we lived in a reality where he was still with us, Kevin Conroy. Not only because their normal voices are as naturally cool as Takaya Kuroda's one, but I could see them emoting as well as him when in the booth, too. And as these examples demonstrate, both men can (or in Kev's case, could) actually sing, too!:

As for their ages? Well, according to Google, both Keith & Kevin are, and/or were, older than Takaya, Darryl, and the character they've voiced (Takaya is currently 58, Darryl's 57 atm, Keith is 67 right now, and if Kev was still alive, he would've been 68 three Thursdays from now).

And then there's Yong, who's not only far YOUNGER than all four of these fellows, as he 28-years-old as of writing, but he's also three years younger than me, if Google is correct! And I'm not even an actor of any kind, I just felt like pointing that out haha.

Depends. ENG dub of both Judgment and its sequel was top notch. Not as good as the JPN dub, but still probably the best ENG dub we'll ever hear.

The karaoke isn't actually bad other than a couple of moments, like that sigh in the beginning. It's at least better than the other clips. I'm not going to even try to describe what's wrong with his voice acting because I'm not an expert in that but it definitely isn't hitting right. And this is someone whose never heard the other English voice actor's work and only listens to the Japanese version.

That's horrendous. Though again, it sounds like something that was taken from the panel/his youtube channel.

I don't have mad love for the guy nor do I like what he's done with his channel but I know a guy has to eat even if it means selling his soul to the devil. But somewhere in the back of my mind, I knew dude would sound like ♥♥♥♥ when he tried yelling. Some people just sound ridiculous when they yell; and yes, he is definitely one of those people.

Again though, if the other clips you show me have any indication of what SEGA has done to improve his vocal range, I feel at least comfortable about playing IW with English audio.

Anyway, thanks for going through all the trouble looking that stuff up.

At this point they should just get Japanese VAs to speak in broken English for the dub, even if the accent is off, it would be far better than having Youtubers/influencers voice acting.
