Launching Elsword - How I fixed it

This is a brief tutorial on how i fixed the game's launcher. First off here are some of my specs: windows 7 64 bits and i had IE 10 installed (never used it). The problem lies with IE 10 at least in my case and here is how you can fix it.

Click on the start button and type "programs and features" in the search box, now click on view installed updates in the left pane of the menu. Scroll down till you find the IE 10 thingy and simply uninstall it. You will be prompted to restart your computer so do so and if everything went according to plan you should now be able to launch elsword from steam and actually link your steam account to the game.

they really need to make their own launcher because i dont think anyone wants to use ie... mine does not work and ie is not on the list of installed programs even though i can start it i cant login/register (had to register on the website) what do i do now? windows 7 x64 bit

If you have windows, you have IE. MS bundled it with Windows back when they actually cared about how many people were using their web browser. A side effect of that was that lazy programmers who needed to display some HTML just embed IE in their apps (and in so doing inherited all the bugs and exploits that exist for IE). Since IE is embedded in so much, and so many applications expect IE to always be present, you can't realistically uninstall it as much as a lot of people would like to.

The real failure here is Elsword for using IE in their launcher. You should under no circumstances tie anything to IE. If you need a browser in your app then you should use one of the embeddable open source browser engines like webkit that you can bundle with your app rather than relying on an external OS DLL that may or may not be present and the correct version you want. Then you don't have idiotic bugs like this one where people don't have the exact version of IE installed that you designed for.

i still have IE 8 running on win 7 64bit and it doens't show on my 'view installed updates' i'm stuck @ the login when i click 'play now' nothing happens... plz help ~thank you~

well i have another problem...that is the link for installing the elsword from steam doesn't work for me.i can't add it in my library so it would install itself.i click on the link link but nothing happens simply....i've done it with different browsers and the steam itself no difference.any ideas?(i'm sure the problem is not from my side because i could add Tribes:ascend so easily and it installed just okay...)
P.S:I don't even have internet explorer on my computer it's just fire fox....

You can't, IE is built into Windows. You can only upgrade to a newer version of IE or uninstall newer versions, but the version that comes with Windows is there permanently.

If that doesn't work for you, try just going to your steam folder steam/steamapps/common/elsword and send the .exe file to your desktop and launch off that. Steam launchers just broken like that.. (I think it's a little easier actually)

I've heard people are having trouble with windows 7 and i have windows 7 but, here is a link that will have you download it a will automaticly download to steam for people who want steam hours, store.steampowered.com/genre/RPG/ and scroll down a little til you find elsword.

After hours and hours of trying I finally got steam to recognise Elsword! No one may like to here this but I deleted steam and all my games, etc etc etc. That step may have nothing to do with my success though so I suggest not trying it unless you have to. I use Vista so I updated to IE 9 and made sure all my windows updates were current. I launched Elsword from inside steam. Every time I used to type in my name/pass and hit play it would just not do anything, if I opened that window in IE or Chrome when I hit login it would just close all windows. So instead this time I hit register in the pop up from the steam launch essteam.exe. I used a secondary email address to create a new account. When I got the email in Chrome I copied and pasted the url into IE 9 to finish the registration. Steam was then able to recognise Elsword, I lost all my characters and save date but luckily I had not played the game too much thus far and so it was an acceptable loss.

Nope. It can be removed if you know what you're doing. That said, I don't have it on this craptop, and 10 wont install... I hate to put 9 back on here only to have it not work either, but I'd like to login with steam, so, "here we go again"...

I did as you said to do and its still saying "You need steam running to play this game"
It does this with Ragnarok as well.
My friend has Windows 7 64 bit, JUST LIKE ME
And it doesn't work on mine but his its totally fine...

Maybe it has to do with my computer account not being admin...?

EDIT:
I was right. It only works if you are on the Admin account of the computer
It wont work if you are not an Admin

I had this same problem. I sorta fixed it by running elsword.exe but then I don't get steam hours. And I don't think the admin of the computer I use would like to type the password into his account every time. I guesss this will have to do. Still a great game.
