Bug in the game? ***Caution, spoiler! "Where is Carl???"

So I'm at the point where I need to capture the monkey near the airship...the first time I went there Carl came too, but when I tried to go back later after "defeating" Skullcrusher Carl won't come with me me any more no matter what I do...really don't want to replay this whole game because of a bug. It is far inferior to the original. I do kinda want to finish it though since I'm fairly close to the end :(

Don't you have an earlier savegame? You can load each single quicksave you made

I have the same problem but when I load an old save game the error still remains
