If the gun was named correctly gun manufacturers could claim copyright infrigement or seek royalties for the use of their products in the game. This is why more and more videogames are creating fantasy versions of real weapons, to avoid this legal minefield.

Back on OP's remark though, I don't actually use guns so I've never see how effective the pistol is...

The point is that the pistol the guards use has an INSANE rate of fire! And they don't have trouble dealing with the recoil either! It's crazy! That pistol is like an assault rifle or something! Sometimes even a sniper rifle if you're far away!
