PC version better than console versions?
I am fortunate enough to have a PS4, Xbox One, and a "decent" gaming PC (old-ish AMD Phenom II X4-960T 3.6 GHz w/ 8GB RAM, but an MSI GAMING 4GB GTX970 that helps make even new games like Battlefront and Fallout 4 quite playable on very high detail... No 4K necessary, but would like to play at 1920x1080).

I know Hitman launched with some PC optimization issues, but also that the console version had FPS spikes and dips that have since been patched with capping options.

All cards on the table, given my PC specs, am I good to go with the PC version? I have $20 in my Steam Wallet, so it will only cost me $40. Or, given the option, am I better off spending $20 more to get it on Xbox One or PS4?

Not sure on performance but PS4 has extra missions. I got it on PC thought and enjoy it.

PC. Extra missions are worthless.

Do you play with a gamepad? Watch 60fps videos of the game on youtube and see what run better. If you are mainly concerned about graphics then the answer is obvious.

In dx11 that cpu will cause problems, but in dx12 you have to deal with poorer performance on nVidia cards. So, unless you don't mind dips into the 40 fps region, dont bother.

I would be playing with a 360 gamepad, yes. I'm normally mouse + keyboard for shooters all the way, but something about Hitman with a gamepad just feels better. So gamepad regardless of system.

I wouldn't mind 40fps if that's what I'd get. Consoles are hovering in the 30fps range (steady, if locked) from what I've read. I don't need the absolute best looking version; I just want the best performance and overall experience. If I can get that for $20 less on the PC, then that's what I'll probably go for. I'd really just do the console version if there was a consensus that the PC version had worse launch-quality smoothness and poor reliability. But if it's running pretty smoothly and my PC will perform pretty well with it (30+ fps, at least on par with consoles), then that sounds like it may be the way to go. I'm not hearing any REAL advantage to the console versions.

I recommend you the PC version. Gamepads are fully supported, the graphic settings allow you to lock on 60 or 30fps and, with this card, you can get decent framerates on High (around 55fps) or 60 on Medium settings.

This game is not a perfectly otimized for PC, but it still runs way better than in consoles

The pc version is future proof.
-dx12 (low level api to squeeze more out of older CPUs and make better use of your GPU ressources)
-shadow settings up to ultra (consoles use medium)
-better textures (consoles use medium)
-draw distance up to ultra (consoles use a mix of low/medium)
-16xAF (consoles use 4x)
-native downsampling option (very effective anti aliasing)
-WAY shorter loading times than on consoles (takes almost 1min to load a level or reload a savegame on ps4/xbox)

edit: with your setup you can configure the game to make it look and run better than the ps4/xbox versions. ;)

Thanks guys. I wasn't sure if this was like Fallout (where it's a no-brainer to get the PC version if you can) or if there was a more legitimate reason to go for the console versions. Sounds like I'm definitely not hearing any selling points for the console version over a capable PC. Combined with already having $20 towards it, think I'll go ahead and pick it up. Only 3 more days to kill Gary Busey! :)

here is an in-depth comparison between consoles and pc, that's where i got all the info from:

pc is a no brainer, especially with your pc, but you should consider replacing the phenom with an i5 or a xeon (if you want i7 performance). That phenom is bottlenecking your 970, but it'll do the job, dx12 will push it to the max.

Yup, that's my exact plan. I just recently upgraded my old HD6950 to the GTX970, fully knowing my CPU would be the bottleneck for now but aiming for the biggest bang-for-the-buck upgrade I could do right now. For $275 I was able to jump up from low quality to high in even the newest games, so I'm happy with it for now... but yeah, I can tell for sure the Phenom is keeping it from reaching its potential. I have to piecemeal my computer upgrade, so a new motherboard, RAM and i5 (possibly i7 -- will depend on my final budget) are hopefully in my future by Christmas.

Thanks for the advice and link! I'm sold.
I would say play on PC if only for the sweetfx injector, Enhanced Clarity and Lighting, it turns the game from a drab foggy mess to this beautiful well made colorful maps. Here are the screenshots I took when the game first came out.

The preset can be found here https://sfx.thelazy.net/games/preset/5329/

Let me know if you have any questions about it.

Edit: I should really take a picture in markarth or sapenezia, or at least in doors in paris because it really is night and day with sweetfx on.

Here is a screenshot I took with sweetfx on I don't have a contrast though.

Don't buy an i7 when you already own a dedicated gpu (in your case the 970)
The only difference between i7's and xeon's is that the i7's have igpu (graphicscard on the chip). They perform exactly the same, but they're ~100€ cheaper.

Intel Xeon E3-1231 is the biggest bang for the buck atm! You'll get i7 4770k performance for ~100 - 150€ less, depending on the shop.

But whatever you do, don't buy another amd cpu. Amd's gpu line is totally fine but i'd never go back to amd cpus. Switching to intel was the single best decision i've ever made when it comes to pc gaming. It's like dumping amy schumer for scarlett johansson.

What are you talking about? The i7 processors are well worth it. Nobody wants old crappy hardware like an Intel Xeon.

Sync you do realize the Xeon E3-1231v3 is a great processor it's basically the same thing as an i7-4770k but it can't be overclocked.

You would go with an Xeon E3-1231v3 over an i5 because it had hyper threading and better for video editing and rending compared to an i5.

You have no idea what you are talking about. Every generation of intel cpus has xeons. The only difference between the i7 4770 and E3-1231 is the lack of igpu. But sure kid, go spend 100€ more for the onboard graphic that you are never going to use. ^^
I'll gladly will.
