Someone should make a mod that replaces the terrible OST with soundtrack from previous games.
I know it pretty much can't happen given that this game is built around DRM and modding is either impossible or too much hassle, but how great would it be if someone implemented music from the previous games into this. It amps up depending on the situation, like if your cover is blown or you get into a shootout, to just ambient, moody exploration music.

I just can't stand the current OST.I think it's absolutely atrocious and generic to the point I actually just turned it off because it's so grating.

I turned the soundtrack off ages ago. I think it's way more immersive this way.

One weirdass side effect - in Sapienza, there was some bizarre Blair-Witch-Project-esque wood knocking constantly coming from the confession booth of the church. No clue wtf that's all about, but it was gone when I restarted the level.

Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds' "Murder Ballads" is a good choice. Look up "Stagger Lee" and imagine it playing on a loop in every level.

Actually it can, and a few people have already done exactly what you're talking about. The limitating comes from not being allowed to distribute the audio files, and that users would have to do the repacking themselves. Automating this isn't so much fun, as if something goes wrong it destroys the archive file.

Textures (modified DDS + standard JPG, and PNG) are easy to swap; sound files require re-encoding.

Well at least someone is trying to rectify the mistake IO made in regards to the soundtrack.

It's not terrible but it's also not great.

It's probably just because I hold the original OSTs with such high esteem. The electronic of Codename 47, the symphonic choir of Silent Assasin, the dark-ambient/electronic horror masterpiece of Contracts, and of course the iconic Ava Maria of Blood Money were stellar. Absolution and HITMAN both have pretty lame and boring soundtracks in comparison.

Each unique from one another, each innately memorable.

Easiest way is just turn off music and play your own collection.

"Terrible ost"? I think the nostalgia goggles are blinding you here. The OST here is quite good as well

I agree I would not go as far as saying it's terrible, however the old ones are much better. I recently replayed Hitman 2 and I was blown away by how good it still is, even by today's standards.

Wow... it seems I am the only person who like the OST?

Reason i turned off the music is because it was just bugged for me, loud music out of nowhere, i mean wtf?

I don't mind it, but ...

^ this sums it up. The volume isn't appropriate in parts of the tracks, and while the style is suitable (in its own way, given context), we've also been spoiled by this sort of music being better tied to the surroundings (e.g. Gianna sisters).
Personally, I find the soundtrack forgettable. After Jesper's departure, I don't think we'll ever see a soundtrack as good as the previous games.
