no need to unplug
If you actually use a controller, it's generally not a problem
If you try to play the game with mouse and keyboard while having various other peripherals plugged in, some of them bug the keyboard controls or cause other issues
It varies widely depending on the type of controller plugged in (lot of people had serious issues if they leave their flight sticks and pedals plugged in), and it's most prominent if you don't intend to use whatver that controller happens to be
It's not really one bug, it's a variety of them that stem from the game not understanding certain input devices and having no in-game method for simply shutting off controllers
Basically the game sees any peripheral (even if it's not a proper one like the xbox controller) and tries to use it and thinks you will be using it, and if it's something it does not have a control map for it can cause a variety of problems (some flight sticks make the camera just rotate non stop for example)
It would be nice if the developers made it easier to simply tell the game to stop looking for a controller when you have no intention of using one, but they didn't
The solution is to disable it in device manager, which is basically a software on/off switch for your devices and how most people manage their plug ins if the device does not come with its own control panel
People who don't know where device manager is will complain they have to plug and unplug their controllers for specific games (like Hitman) that don't interect with them correctly
Hitman works fine with some controllers, just not all of them, and in particular not if you weren't going to use it while it's plugged in
right click on hitman in steam library
click properties
click controller
select "disable steam input"
apply
@Kunovega... you have the patience of a Saint! (^.-)
I have the HOTAS system plugged in and it cant be disabled (it seems).
Or toggle off your USB inputs directly if you prefer:
http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/usb_devices_view.html
Or use a USB hub with its own power and an on/off switch that you can turn off all at once as mentioned here:
https://www.reddit.com/r/hotas/comments/3ni4c3/possible_to_disable_x55_without_unplug/
There are plenty of options if you go looking for them, HOTAS is an issue in several games like this, Subnautica and others
I dont understand why the "disable steam input" does not work.
So anyway, thanks for making this thread! Was kind hoping I could play with a controller though. xD
