I don't really know about the number of presses but I know if you spam the Q button the faster you spam the faster you subdue someone
took me a while to find that out, felt really stupid aferwards for not knowing...
If it's not 10, then it is some number of presses, whether you're pressing fast or slow.
Slower chokes in professional difficulty would make sense though, but as a general gameplay mechanic its done that way so choking isn't a chore and shooting becomes the go to option.
I quite agree with that last paragraph as in the case of Deus Ex, i did find myself using the stun gun way to often. Hitman in my opinion if you love it should be treated as a fine wine rather than red bull as theres nothing like almost getting seen.
