I don't really care if the game is released episodically because I think it suits the game quite well IMO, I mean I don't see any reason how making the game episodic would make it bad.
Because most of the reviews discusses about how the game was marketed, it's quite hard to find a review that actually talks about the gameplay in detail so don't even bother and read/watch some reviews somewhere else like YouTube. I really liked this game but it isn't perfect because there has been some ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ moments that can ruin your perfect "Silent Assassin" rating (One example is that NPCs can see through walls sometimes) but they are still updating the game monthly so hopefully most of the bugs gets fixed. It's still one of the best games from last year that I've ever played and I'm waiting patiently for them to release Season 2.
Like is said above, you'll spend half a day in the steam negative reviews, before finding one being negative at the game outside of the 2 items you mention.
That says it all: game is awesome.
Can't comment vs. previous games, but yes, the missions are good.
There is variety, and interesting games mechanics, like suits opening doors in Hokkaido.
A must buy IMO
