High GPU temps and usage even in menus? [EDIT Solved]
Running a GTX 1060 and even if I turn all the settings down as low as possible the GPU seems to run as hot as it does on max settings, hitting upwards of 70-75 degrees cpnstantly. Even weirder is that If I idle on menus or alt-tab the GPU seems to get hotter and hotter until I alt-tab back in and resume the game. Is this a common problem?

-EDIT-

It turned out that without v-sync on the menu was just running at an insanely high FPS unneccesarily, turned v-sync on and everything was fine. I don't know if they've patched this or anything since though.

Does it happen in other games?
The author of this topic has marked a post as the answer to their question.

@Morthoseth, @Crocker[NL]: Be quiet if you have no idea of what you are talking about.

Hi Hapyto,
I know what you are going through. I watch my temps exactly while playing and of course I tend to compare them. I got a GTX980ti and on Battlefield f.e. I get 58-60 degrees on max settings.
Hitman on the other side jumps up crazy. I too get crazy temps like 70 degrees and let me tell you that high temp for this game isnt unuasual. Even on low settings.
The game is not very well optimized and do not wait for any fix or any intel from dev side. It will not come since performance is not well optimized since day one. I can only suggest that you force yourself to get comfortable with the high temp and the fps stuttering. Besides, 70-75 degrees is nothing to worry about. Just enjoy the game :)

At first i though it was a v-sync issue as well, but after enableing an FPS counter I know it's not. I have a RX480 and when going into menus my FPS counter shows 60fps(same as gameplay). The fans intently kick in high, and slow down again when i resume game.

Few things I've noticed playing this game was if you use the optimal power management setting in NVCP then it'll adapt accordingly so long as you have v-sync enabled however only when running exclusive fullscreen. If you use borderless windowed mode aka fullscreen then you'll see core clock usage at maximum.
No unusually high temperatures on my end but as Ignaeus said: 70-75 isn't too bad actually (different GPUs have different limits). Running the game with a mixture of medium and high settings, with vsync on and exclusive fullscreen enabled. Here are my specs:
Windows 7 64 bit (professional edition)
Intel Core i7 950 @ 3.07ghz CPU (4 cores, 8 cores logical)
Nvidia GTX 680 4gb vram GPU
16gb DDR3 ram

What is wrong with what they said? Yes this game isn't that well optimized, and that's another thing that's worth bringing up, but you didn't need to be rude to those two users. "Is vsync on?" and "does this happen with other games?" are two common questions that should often be raised for a topic like this (and you'll see them on a ton of troubleshooting threads). Not every user is going to be affected by optimization and this game seems to run differently for different people....

Thanks glad to know it's not just some issue on my end, I know anything below 80 degreess is totally fine but it just seems weird how much stress the game is putting on the GPU at any given time. When I'm running other modern games on high settings and barely breaking 60 degrees it just seemed a little odd.

These things happen unfortunately. I remember being excited to play D4: Dark Dreams Don't Die (which looks and plays like a Telltale episodic game) and it overheating my GPU to the point where the game crashed:

There's no reason it should've done that and make my GPU work as hard as it did (at least with Hitman it's kind of understandable). There was a few others that reported the same but the majority seemed to run this game fine and I tried virtually everything to figure out why this was happening.

So sometimes it can just be the game's fault and some players are unfortunately left with a different experience. Just look at the Hitman hub - plenty of people that report no issues while there are others who have reported stuttering and all sorts of other problems. There's a number of different factors involved, one of course being if the game likes your rig or not.

P.S. Have you tried exclusive fullscreen as others have suggested? I've had no issues with that setting unlike fullscreen mode.

I'm having temperature issues too, to the point that i don't feel like playing the game, i play tons of games and this is the only that gets it so high on temeperature.

I know the temps are still under "factory safety" but i'm melting with my computer so hot next to me.

Looking at your hours played, nothing else you play has this high a graphics quality

How old is your card? It's likely you just aren't running games that push it's capability
MAIN_MAN_BAM Jan 16, 2018 @ 11:36pm
pretty sure 70-75 isn't bad for a gpu, pretty sure as long as its below 85-90 is good. especially newer cards

if your that OCD about it, MSI Afterburner>set custom fan profile
MooP Jan 17, 2018 @ 11:38am
Anything below 80c is 100% fine/safe anything past 85-90c+ you wana stay away from... Can download custom fan software and set you own fan curve.
