for people with screens that support HDR, is it way to bright?
Even with the lowest option in the gamma slider i don't see the inner box.
The colors look off too.

I"ve had no problems with RE7 or shadow warrior 2. (and with the same TV no problems with HDR on the xbox s and the ps4 pro. GoW and FF/uncharted.)

I'm using a LG oled 4k (2016 model g6). PC has 2 titan X (pascal).
it is set to 4:2:2 12bit. <- windows color bit/space

bug? Is this working (well) for anyone?

mine seems a it washed out, but not quite as bad as you describe. It's definitely on and working, but I'll have to try turning it off/on to see how much of a difference it makes. Sapienza is not nearly as saturated as I would have expected, which makes me feel like it's washed out, but maybe it's just normal and not what I expected. Seems similar to SW2 from my first impression. Only RE7 has wowed me when turning HDR on/off so far. I expected hitman to be brilliant with the color and brightness details that hdr provides, but in my very quick look that doesn't seem to be the case.

One big issue I had though is quitting the game kept my tv in hdr mode, which was really weird to see other programs colors all off. Turning the TV off and back on again fixed it, but that's the only real problem I've encountered so far.

I got it working setting it to RGB/Full. Which is normal PC stuff.
But HDR would normally want limited, 4:2:2/10bit (or 12) (which is what a console, DVD played, etc. would do for HDR.)
It is also what RE7 needed not to be super dark.
I hope there is some standard. Becaue i don't want to keep changing color space for each different HDR game.
Of course, the perfect world would be more bandwidth (DP 1.4 or HDMI 2.1) so one could do RGB/Full/10bit
RickyFish 31 stycznia 2017 o 10:12
thanks for the tip! windows 10 'creators update' supposedly includes HDR support. Not sure if it's just in dx12, or within windows itself, but hopefully it brings some sort of standardization that games can stick to.
Zurv 31 stycznia 2017 o 10:14
yeah, i think that will auto switch to YCbCr 4:2:2 (or 4:2:) limited 10/12bit when HDR is on and back to RGB when HDR is off.. which would be nice. :)
Of course it wouldn't help with hitman (as it is now) because hitman wants RGB/full :)

It's something in your settings. Make sure to check all the picture options. My 4k display "Samsung" has something called "Digital Clean View" and "Auto Motion Plus". I turn Digital Clean View to Off and Auto Motion to Smooth. Otherwise the screen, especially the shadows seem washed out and framerate isn't smooth. Many newer televsion have built in sync which can help refresh rate.

it isn't a refresh rate issue. refresh only has to do with vsync issues.
In a game mode motion plus or other such features disabled because it adds to input lag. Those are also fixes for issues with frame rate. I not have frame rate issues with two titan X(P)

If you aren't having problems. What color space are you using? This game is odd as HDR seems to be set using RGB/full. Which is normal for a PC game, but not for HR, which would be YCbCr 4:2:2 and 10bit (or higher)
of course if you wan't playing in 4k.. then it matters less, but there is less bandwidth you one isn't limited.

I had this exact problem. Couldn't see the middle box of the calibration test, everything looked over-exposed and painfully bright. Switching to DX11 fixed it for me. I didn't have to adjust colour space.

My setup is Windows 10 with GeForce 970 -> Yamaha RX-V581 -> Samsung KS8000. This game looks fantastic with HDR!
Zurv 3 lutego 2017 o 15:25
cool. that is good news. sadly i started with dx11 :( (HDR didn't work for me in dx12)

what color space are you using? RGB? or YCbCr? 8bit or 10bit(or 12)

I can get it to work with RGB/8bit, but it doesn't look great. non-HRD looks better.

windows 10 with Titan X(P) SLI -> Denon AVR-X7200WA --> LG OLED65G6P

are you @ 4k?

I updated to Windows 10 creators. Now when I use RGB Full 8bpc games won't automatically use HDR when they launch as they did before creators update.

To get games to use HDR after creators update, I have to make Nvidia CP set to YcbCr 422 10bit or 12bit. But now my games also have 30% less fps wtf? If go back to RGB Full non HDR my fps is back to full.

Also, if I try HDR with RGB Full the colors are extremly washed out and dimm.

After creators update everything seems to go backwards!!!!

Are the HDR TVs that bad they can't handle 444? Or is it a limitation of ♥♥♥♥♥♥ HDMI? If I have to sell a kidney to buy one, they could at least offer 444 12 bit.
knighttime 1 maja 2017 o 4:44
i have a better quesion, why dont they make pc gaming monitors with hdr? they have it for tv but not for a pc monitor?
Zurv 1 maja 2017 o 5:47
A few monitors just game out with HDR. HDR is pretty sweet. They issue with hitman was fixed sometime ago and HDR works .. but this game doesn't show case it well.

Yeah, it is BS that i have to switch settings on my PC just to play HDR games and back again for everything else. Next year we should see TVs we HDMI 2.1 so we can get 10bit, RGB, full.

My dream is to get a 77" OLED with 2.1 next year.. sadly i think the pricing will be super crazy still.

For the PC side, these HDR monitors will use displayport. even old DP 1.2 can do 10bit, rgb, full.

What settings do you use to get the PC to play games with HDR and what drivers are you sing?

I had to roll back to 378.92 to use RGB Full in desktop so the colors arn't washed out and still launch games in HDR. If I use the new drivers, the color is washed out and dull.
Zurv 1 maja 2017 o 6:43
For HDR you need to have 10bit color and have a monitor/tv that can. (also it has to support HDR, just having 10bit isn't enough. I have the dell oled monitor, it can do 10bit, but not HDR. booo.)
But HMDI can't do 10bit without "limited" Output dynamic range.
First, hitman doesn't really look any better with HDR (same with shadow warrior 2.. which also support HDR on the PC.) RE7 and crappy mass effect look real good in HDR.

For HDR use
10bit color, YCbCr422, Limited.

for everything else use 8bit, RGB, Full.

the impact of higher color depth you don't really notice, but limit/full you will.

tje chroma subsampling is a big deal and you really notice it on black details, which is major when looking at the desktop.

*NOTE: If using the latest version of windows 10 (1703... "creators update") - there is a "feature" unders display to turn on advanced color. Turn that off!! It turns on HDR all the time. ugh.. it is crazy :) a desktop in HDR looks like poo.
