So I have some questions about playing in Japan as a Diamyo (<-- Wrong spelling I think) thou I´m about to try out a WC from that island. I want to try out the mechanics as a Diamyo and form Japan offcourse. But it would be nice to have some tipz and not go in blind :) I would call me pretty experienced in this game and I´ve pretty much played them all soon BUT I havn´t played on the Japanese island :|

Usually I go in blind but I thought: What the heck! Let´s ask the community :)

[1] Wich Diamyo do you think have the best Ideas and potential for a WC?
[2] Can I keep those ideas or is Japan locked to take the ideas it has? Maybe Japan Ideas are better than all the Diamyos?
[3] Do you have other tipz that can help me on this quest?

you arent locked to japans ideas once you form them
some daymios have better mil ideas and some specialize in other regards.
uesugi is easiset to form imo

Could plow thrue the wiki but it´s a little more fun to ask around here :)
Oda might be better for WC since their military ideas are nearly as good as Uesugis BUT they also get -10% CCR and -10% Province cost

Tho their leader is a slight bit worse and they have 2 less provinces

Hey that´s sound like music in my ears :)

Looked up their Ideas in my phone now(at work) and they look pretty nice with all those Leader Pips :)
Japan is last place to get any Institution (Renaissance, Colonialism, Printing Press) so you dump monarch points to spawn each of these or run toward Europe to get some land that has embraced them. In either case you are probably always going to be behind tech.

For a Japan WC it would probably be best to take exploration first and to try to get 4 provinces in Cuba - stating them WITHOUT a 5th province to disable the CN, that should make it rather easy to spawn all Institutions

Meanwhile conquering south and trying to reach India

Oh, and Uesugi is 100% better, Oda is simply too small.

Planning to start this next week. I can be wrong but it feels like a pretty strait forward and quick thing to conquer the Japanese Island with all the Diamyos right? I can be wrong but it feels like i Mini-HRE where noone else can interfear right?
Though it starts in a very sticky spot in the far side of Kanto with a ally you'd rather eat on a hill poor for development as a OPM Utsunomiya[eu4.paradoxwikis.com] has excellent later/mid game ideas for maintaining a large empire focusing on fire damage and writing off AE that might help you especially in the age of absolutism and imperialistic conquest landgrabs.

Converting to Sunni via the indonesian states like brunei could also be useful for maximising your cavalry potential as Nanbu[eu4.paradoxwikis.com] also, including the free +5% discipline tradition, +10% morale and useful +10% shock damage NI's availble through high numbers of horses and army compositions to offset your bad tech group.

amago has good ideas aswell, inflation reduction, army tradtion decay, combat ability, morale, discipline aswell as trade

it seems like the harder the start, the better ideas
japan can get colonialism to stay up on tech and slow the euros down abit if you can explore Alaska and expand into the phillpines.. Mings gonna hate you anyway so keeping it bottled up from your nieghbours for a few years will give you all the advantage you need to get ahead
I have tried a few Oda runs a few days ago and gotta say: Stick to Uesugi.

They are overall just better. At the start rival those with only 1 ally and humiliate 3 times, that gives you 900 free points - i just played a multiplayer game and was easily ahead in tech, had points for my first idea AND spawned Renaissance.

Dont eat like crazy but rather take it slow and humiliate a bit more - around 6 times total.

Also since you havent been in Japan yet, forgot to mention:

You get a free cb for neighbours, BUT you only get 50% AE if you have a claim on them (all provinces with claims 50% AE). So make claims at all times.

Once you ate half of Japan you can take Kyoto, if you fully annex Ashikaga you gain all other Daimyos as subjects. You gotta watch out tho whether you have more admin or diplo points and whether you want to annex more daimyos first or you wanna integrate them (also note that due to AE integrating can take a while)

You cant become a tributary of Ming so ignoring them at first might be better. Exploration should be first idea, if you hop to indonesia and switch main node you can get a good trade

You can also just concentrate your effort on South East Asia + India and eat Ming later.

This is truly an amazing example how great this community can be! :)
I fact I´m starting to be so excited of this new campaign that I will probably leave my Byzantium-Forming Rome campaign... When you´ve pretty much destroyd all that can sabotage it for you it get so frekin boring to just go in with 200k troops and eat some land.

The Japanese island is my last place on the map to play and it feels almost new and fresh! Saved it for last :)
