How to become HRE Emperor as Castille
Just saw this achievement and was wondering what would be the best way to go about this!

Vassalising the electors is one route, although from what I've read/heard it's the messier one. The easiest path for Castile to become Emperor (especially if all you want to do is get the achievement, and don't much care what happens beyond that) is to wait for the Leagues to form, and hope several electors convert to Protestant. Each time you see an elector convert, you need to immediately start building up relations with them - in the lead up, it's worth working on your relations with all electors so you don't have as much work to do at this stage. Electors have a huge malus to voting for a nation that's on the opposite side of the League War to them, but they must vote for a Catholic nation unless the League Wars have already concluded in Protestant victory or religious peace; you can take advantage of this by being a large, powerful Catholic nation that isn't in the Catholic League, thus getting the Protestant Electors to vote for you because they can't vote for the current Emperor (who by default leads the Catholic League). Vassalising electors works, you just end up in some large, messy wars and you're pretty much guaranteed never to get the vote of any elector that you haven't vassalised; neverthless, if you don't want to depend so much on how the Reformations play out, it is the more dependable pathway.

Take Diplo ideas, and wait for religion wars while you max up relations with electors.

I agree, wait for the religous wars but don't get involved unless the Catholic League is getting owned. Improve relations with the remaining electors and turn 1 or 2 into vassals if needed. You may not need to make any vassals though. I received the achievement a while ago and have become HRE several times as Spain after that without trying. If you become emperor you may as well go for the achievement to dismantle the HRE also. All you need is to wait until you are not elected HRE then goto war with the remainng electors at once and occupy their capitals. Of course while you are emperor you can knock the empire down to only a few electors if you want. :-)

inheriting Burgundy will get you close to Trier, Cologne, Mainz and the Palatinate, vassalize them and improve relations then wait till the current emperor dies
ally electors and rival austria, which will decrease their chance of allying austria. get high opinion and wait
Yeah, I think Rhino's advice is the best one these days. I haven't done the vassalisation route in a while, but the last time even vassalised electors either take a long time to vote for you, or even don't at all.

By rivaling Austria and allying electors they practically won't be able to ally Austria. Which means you get more brownie points with them in the voting process. Do this with 4 electors, and up relations with them. After a while you'll probably become emperor even when not being an HRE country. Just did it this week with France..

Hi everyone,

I'm new to the game, albeit late to the conversation. Where do I find the HRE menu? I'd like to see the electors, the current status, etc.

I've looked at the diplomacy screen for the HRE, but it appears the same as any other country's diplomacy screen. I can't seem to find any special HRE menu amidst the plethora of buttons and menus in this game. lol

Thanks for any help in advance.

Honestly if you just ally a few electors, take diplo ideas, and keep relations topped off with your elector allies, you have a pretty good chance of getting it.

I need to know who the electors are, though. That's why I'm looking for the HRE menu.

The most reliable way would probably be to get the lowlands from Burgundy and then slowly start vassalising electors. In an ideal world Austria will inherit Bohemia, making them an elector, and then you can use your mission to PU them and have an elector PU partner too.

It's also entirely possible to just luck into it (especially if you go protestant). I did it again recently by converting to protestant and ignoring the league war (since it didn't affect me) but the protestants one and since everyone in the empire hated each other they just elected big ol' protestant Spain as the 1st protestant emperor instead.

Its the little icon with the bird and a number below it on the bottom right, just to the left of the minimap.

Also, for future reference, if you have a question, just start a new thread, rather than necroing a thread from 3 years ago. Doing it as you have here gives people notifications about a conversation they no longer have an interest in, and leads to confusion due to the many changes in the game over time.

Thank you, that was helpful information.

As for necro'ing old threads, this is the way to continue a conversation about the same issue instead of flooding forums with new threads. People can unsubscribe if they are no longer interested in following the posts. :-)

Nope, it's not the best method. You are continuing a conversation that has information that probably is not longer usefull due to updates and DLC's.

Also, nobody likes necros

You confuse your personal opinion with those of everyone else's opinions. Many people continue conversations like this.

This is the proper method of continuing an open conversation to track changes and discuss further. If you'd like to apply to be a dev to see the difference, please do so. You will learn about the preferred development process compared to a social confusion. :-)

If you don't like it, unsubscribe. It's a check box. :-)
