What are “Cyans” Doing in Blood Bowl II?
As a long time fan of Games Workshop products, both in table top and video game format, I of course was going to get Blood Bowl II. I’m really enjoying the game so far, but as I was leveling up my Coach, I noticed that I started earning these strange looking platinum like coins. Initially I didn’t know what they were, or even what their purpose served in the game.

They're going to be used for cosmetic purchases. I believe you can also use them in some leagues? Not sure about that.

You mean, you have a problem with earning INGAME currency for INGAME rewards? Dunno, doesn't sound problematic to me, rather something to look forward to if done right, something to work towards to...BB does not have a real economy after all. Playing games should reward you with something...why not?

You do realize that Cyans are the Microtransaction (Real World Money) Currency of Cyanide Studios... right?

Ah, sorry I overlooked that one bit "real money". Alright, you have a right to be "concerned", but as long as it is cosmetic, it's eh...I'd like to earn that stuff ingame, but I guess that age is over.

Why should anyone be concerned, dont say we have to be concerned that in a market economy people want our money for stuff or what?

Cosmetics arent something you need for your survival, buy them or not. Other games do the same. Ever played GW 2 or Europa Universalis. No one is concerned there.

Yet cosmetics could still be unlocked in games. There is nothing to unlock in BB 2, which is just a tad sad.

Yes, but not in Europa Universalis as far as i know. There are games where you can unlock certain cosmetics in MMO for example.

Perhaps they will be to unlock body and gear customisation, all just for show but the players could use it.

I like that our corporate overlords have somehow convinced us as a species that to get anything you've got to spend money, and that just makes sense. Go capitalism! Wageslavery for life!

Errrr, well yes. If someone spends time and money producing a product, and you want that product, then you should compensate them for the time and money they spend producing the product.

MorbidMind, do you go to work and produce things that people want for free? Or do you get paid for your work?
Frank Hardly Sep 24, 2015 @ 6:24pm
Sephorin should we pay for every single part of a product seperately? If I've already bought the game shouldn't I get the armor models that were developed for it rather then buying them individually? Lets not delude ourselves into beliving this isn't a greedy decision from Cyanide.

I do think that's a legitimate point, although I am not sure what it has to do with "wage slavery."

As long as we're comparing this to wages, though, would you be comfortable getting paid for making a doll, then getting paid nothing for making a new pink dress for that doll? I could argue that the pink dress should be included with the doll that I purchased, so why should you get paid anything else for making the dress? I should get it for free.

As long as the time - money investment is on a fair basis i don't mind the optional microtransactions since i can get the cosmetics if i invest a reasonable amount of time. However having to pay for the game, races and additional stuff still leaves a sour taste in my mouth.

You probably have to buy a new colour for your car, if you dont like the old one, or do you get it for free or if you want a subwoofer in your car, you get for free? If you want a new motor you must buy it too or not?

And my beloved revolutionary friend greed is what fuels capitalism and innovation. But on the other side, the devs just want to get paid, there is nothing wrong with that. Do make the game yourself if you can do it better.

But this is useless discussion its always like i have paid 45 Euros and now they should give me free DLCs and work for free. Strange thing is in other games no one is blaming the devs, not in Cities Skylines or Europa Universalis. Its a free choice if you want your indians to look like indians and not like europeans.

In WoW you even pay a monthly fee and still you must pay for cosmetics, do people who play it even mind. I guess not. Just the ol Blood Bowl guy is complaining, dunno why.
