Starting a High-Elf Team Advice
So, I've been doing the round in dipping my toes in regards to playing the different teams, and the turn came to the elves - the High Elves. I made a suitably snobbish team - all full of dukes and earls who refuse to look down; got destroyed in my first two games, but won against a Chaos team, so I have some cash to spend - 130000.
Now, in order to get a right start, would it be a good idea to get a sub, another re-roll, or an apo; or even just keep the money?
I have 6 linemen, 2 throwers, 2 blitzers, and a catcher - no subs, no apo, and living dangerously. I don't have a lot of experience with elves, and they sure play different. Normally (in my brief BB career), I have played Orcs, Dwarves and Skaven - the latter being most up my alley when it comes to fun, though squishy rats they are.
Anyway, looking for some help. So far there are no level-ups after three games, but SPP detributed pretty evenly, therefore I'd say after the next. There is one thrower with an injury.

Thanks!

First up you want an apo ASAP elves are squishy and expensive, as you start to get better TV youll meet dwarves and orcs loaded with MB and you will suffer badly if you cant rescue your good leveled pieces. Also never waste APOs on line elves early on they are there to get crippled and die :)

As for match tactics im no elf expert there are plenty around here and on fumbbl and such like who are read guides watch vids, but my advice is this never ever resort to man marking with high elves unless its like 1 or 2 turns left to grab you a win or draw. Screen screen and more screen and always have someone available to score cause when you grab the ball on their drive HEs are the masters (along with wood elves) of scoring from nowhere.

And get used to seeing lots of bells and red crosses on the sidelines of your pitch as you get more TV but never despair you just need 2 elves to score :)

I would only go one thrower and two catchers. High elf catchers are awesome at st3 and with doubles for NoS they can score on a whim.

The ideal starting team is:

- 2x Catcher
- 2x Blitzer
- 1x Thrower
- 6x Linemen
- 2x RR

With two throwers, you're going to have one sat around doing nothing but lineman duty for most of the game.

Your first purchase should always be an apothecary. After that, you could consider a third reroll. After that, fill out the team with the final two Catchers.
Having four MV8 ST3 players is invaluable- you can build two as receivers, and two as sackers or semi-Blitzers.

Also, fire the injured thrower. :)

I'll get the apo. I think I miss-read when I got the second thrower; that should have been a second catcher. Anyway, I don't think I can fire the other thrower since i will have less players (10), but it will suck having a crippled spp sponge... Is it better to go with a journeyman?

Depends tbh I did this with my dark elves and fired someone went down to 10 players with the eye to replace them next match, however I then lost 1 player to death (dead/dead roll) and another to miss next game and only drew so didnt have enough to replace the original guy or the other 2... finding myself with 3 journeymen next match, 7 games later they still havent recovered from the debarcle.

Firing might be to early, i agree, what you could do is give one of the throwers leader for an early low cost (TV wise) extra reroll, then when you do get more cash for a full roster and the 3 to 4 rerolls you can fire him to trim your TV down again.

You're only saving 30k, on a slot that could be taken up with something better like Accurate or, on a double, Strong Arm.

It's probably a matter of taste, but my usual HE Thrower goes Accurate -> Sure Hands -> NoS, with doubles inserted as and where appropriate.
If I get all three and roll a 4th skill without a double, then I'd take Leader.
