Most of them will. Remember that this will be the THIRD installment in the franchise, and we've already seen the effect of a new version of the game on the old version.
The first month of a new product is the highest population, and that won't be any different for BB3 (it was certainly true of BB2). While there will certainly be bugs and issues, the quality of multiplayer will probably never be better than it is early on.
<snort> You see people who aren't actually active members of the online BB community complaining in Steam forums, but not many people who have ever been seen before. The idea that people are going to "protest" is laughable.
Every new version gets a slew of chattery randos that have lots to say prior to release and then vanish shortly after the game comes out. I doubt this one will be any different.
Don't get me wrong. I think the game's great. And the Devs did a good job of translating it from the tabletop. And I've had hours of entertainment.
But I already bought this game twice. I'm not buying it a third time unless they can give me a good reason. So far, nothing I've seen in this new game seems worth an upgrade.
I was the same way with BB2 and skipped that one until 3 turned out the way it did. Now I'm checking out 2 again.
If the average BB2 owner is jumping ship just because a new game has arrived, regardless of quality? Then I'm glad I can think for myself, instead of acting like a lemming.
It's fair enough that you made this comment before the actual release but that is clearly not true now. Some of the biggest complainers are some of the biggest names in the BB online community. BB3 sounds like it is a complete disaster based on what they are saying. It is basically impossible to run a league with the current restrictions i.e. all games must be complete in a round, lack of basic management functions that are in BB2.
I had actually come around to BB3 recently based on all the positive stuff I was reading (from people like you) but it sounds like this launch is even worse than what we expected.
Perhaps worth a buy in 6 months to a year from now?
I'm going to stand by the prediction - we can watch the usage numbers and see how it pans out. Cyanide products are always dumpster fires, especially in the early days, but it hasn't changed the usage trends.
You need to understand the difference between criticism and rejection. The so-called "big names in the BB online community" aren't going to stick to BB2 and hold off on BB3 - most of the people you might know as big names are going to be streamers, and no streamer in their right mind is going to fail to move to the brand new product instead of streaming more of the same thing they've done for the last few years.
I'll happily write a scathing denunciation of certain choices that Cyanide has made in BB3, but I'm not going to skip BB3 because of them - I'll advocate for them pulling their heads out of their butt-holes in the hopes that they... do that... and change their bad choices.
Which is why it falls to the community to tell them that, and we will - loudly, and with plenty of expletives. Cyanide makes dumb decisions - they have for over a decade with this product line alone - but there are certain critical periods in the product's lifespan where they actually give a damn, listen, and make changes... the first few months are one of those periods.
Whatever floats your boat. All games are, on a technical and mechanical level, better after 6-12 months... but multiplayer games tend to have the best player group during the earliest period. So it depends on how you're looking to play - if you have a private league that only wants to play together then yeah, you might want to wait. If you want to play open leagues with matchmaking, then early is better.
Personally, I'll buy the game now that it is out. I don't pre-order anything except in very specific circumstances. I generally only play with my own private league, but I'm a data and analytics person and am very interested to see the BB2020 rules in largescale use and get numbers from it. It is unlikely my situation is similar to most people's.
Yes, I've no argument with you there there, Mike. Assuming this incarnation eventually gets all of or at least the most significant bugs ironed out then I imagine I'll switch too. "Eventually" being the operative word however:
Agreed. Having seen the BB3 forum & the overwhelming number of posts about bug after game-breaking bug listed there, well... Plus Nacon's proposed 'road-map' (nasty term, it's called a "schedule" in English, but anyway...) of game improvements which, after months if not years, will eventually add such luxuries as a league, pause, & even a re-connection [gasp!] to a temporarily disconnected game, again well... When I read all of that back, & bearing in mind this is Cyanide & their record of tardiness & money-grabbing from BB1 & 2, eventually might be overly optimistic.
Yep, seems likely.
