Dead Game?
Hello,

I bought BB:CE and BB2:LE during the winter sale and have started playing BB2:LE solo, the campaign (to get into the game/rules). I have not played BB as tabletop, so it is a new ruleset and such for me.

But: the Community here on Stean seems to be a bit dead or at least "dusty"? Discussions are mostly weeks or longer old :-/

--> Is BB2 or BB still a game with an active (and large/not corefans only) community?

Dude, remember its a board game originally, teams were not designed to be equal on purpose, but they all have different flavor and added challenge that goes with it. No team is OP from getgo, some could become very killy once they have 30+ games under their belt, but in the end better coach wins 8 out of 10 times.

BB community is very much alive, very hepfull and non toxic baring a few individuals. Game itself requires a lot of learning and should be played online to help you develop.

Jump in, clock lotsa games in Open and Champion ladder and join a few scheduled leagues. Game is far from dead.

Check out reddit for a more active forum

Reddit.com/r/bloodbowl. I'm involved in 4 very active leagues and there's a lot more out there!

It's already a bad thing when you have to create accounts for reddits and discords

You can get a game anytime at the Open ladder (well, maybe not if it's the middle of the night or so)

The thing is: This game, Blood Bowl, is made for organized league play and for this, you need discord, reddit or some other kind of communication. And there are many leagues with several competitions.

Also, lol? Discord is basically mandatory if you're a modern gamer. Like Teamspeak.

How are you meant to take part in leagues without chatting to people?

That's like attempting to join a sports team by just turning up in kit on match day.

Thank you guys (and maybe girls ;-) for your answers, it's a good sign, that the thread got 4 comments within a few hours!

What I noticed is, that there are next to no detailed infos about the game and its deeper mechanics. The official "info / guide" website is a joke... and the fan wiki I found is basically empty, while there are plently of games with a large and helpful fan wiki :-/
So far I have only found some youtube "guides" but that's no real option, esp. for detailed information, e.g. about the mechanic/use of Cheerleaders, dodge chance and so on. The official "info" website doesn't even explain, what "SSP" means, as example.

Is there a guide / "how to get in" or such, that I did not found yet? Also, are there Leagues for new and nooby players too, or will I simply get smashed to the ground? ...Had that a while ago, when I tried to get back into "Bloodline Champions", after a few years not playing it. Very small player base, teams not even close to balanced, beeing flamed / insulted by high level teammates for not playing as well as they did and getting killed by high level enemies...

www.reddit.com/r/rebbrl is a rookie league, perfect for what you want.

Fumbbl.com has a handy help section.

Reddit.com/r/bloodbowl search for "let's talk about" for great race specific guides.

The teams in this game aren't balanced btw.

I feared or kinda expected that, since I found a "registration" table for a BB2 league, that listed the number, how many players picked which team. Some were picked by >15 players, while some only two or three times - in general not a good sign about the balancing.
Tho, to be fair, there are plenty of online-PvP games of all genres, but next to all of the games I have played so far, most had some kind of balancing problems.

--> What kind and degree of balancing problems do you mean? Like some teams that are 100% op, while some are 100% "useless"? I can imagine, that such a inbalance would be quite bad for the diversity of different teams in leagues. Why picking a weak team on purpose, reducing the own winning chance by oneself^^

Yeah the teams aren't balanced, but there's no problem with that.

CE is all but dead. I am in an old league where we have 10 players and play every 2-3 weeks.

I play in a couple BB2 leagues, one has 190 players, and I can get a MM game in less than five minutes.

Spending 5 rolls + leader might mean you are doing some silly things.

Cknoors guide to BB1. some things are different in BB2, but there is still lots of relevant info about the fundamentals of BB.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MV3kQuapaTw&list=PLSJ6kwwJv4Nr-Ky1PaFZys50S7zewio1O

and here is another guide just for BB2.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WrU7dU1HSds&list=PLSJ6kwwJv4Nq12RPHARCNSpIJ7162MANH

between those, you should have absolutely all the info needed (and then some) to play and make basic decisions, and start progressing as a coach.

also...its blood bowl.

you dont need to have a DEEP deep understanding of most of the obscure rules anyways.

what are your chances of dodging out of tackle zones when your opponent has a prehensile tail? who cares?!?! thats how elves think. YECH. next think you wanna tell me your thinking about picking up a ball and throwing it. BLECH.

you can always just play a bashy team with lots of big guys, ignore the ball entirely, and punch the closest opponents in the face until no ones left standing! now THATS Blood Bowl!

When the game only includes 8% of the content developed prior to release, and the dev then wants you to pay an additional %350 of the cost of the game to get a complete version...

I played tabletop 40k... Games Workshop has been ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ their fans since the inception.

it makes it really hard to be a fan of a company that is clearly just despicable.
