game is too hard
I keep losing more players to death & injury than I can upgrade and make stronger. I usually play league matches. Over-all my team has won 16 from 42 games and my line-up is now very depleted.

This game has a huge learning curve just to get "ok"

What team are you playing? Something like Orcs is much more forgiving for a new player as they have inbuilt skills, and the AV to take a beating.

One thing I tell all new coaches, don't follow up every (almost any) block, even if it's a knock down you can end up splintering your team in your eagerness to punch, which results in your team getting picked off one by one.

A knowledge of what skills and stats to take on specific players at level up helps too. Maybe you can link a screen shot of a team?

Save it to imgur and link that, or save it to your steam profile and link that!

@Grimisto check out reddit.com/r/rebbrl I pretty much live in their Advice channel on the Discord.

Otherwise if you have specific questions, ask away!

I play a mixed Amazon & Norsca team, and I do alright despite usually having a few injuries per game.

Quite a few of the skills are kind or unnecessary or very situational, however skills that almost any player should have are:

- Block
- Mighty Blow
- Dodge
- Guard
- Sidestep
- Tackle

This skills are really good considering Amazon's get very early access to the Block+Dodge combo and my norsca lineman have block. When they level up I give them tackle so players with dodge get screwed over against me.

Some people say I’m too hard.

I'm kind of in the same boat. Many years ago I played the first one and loved it, but it if I recall it didn't have a campaign and so wasn't my thing in the long run.

Picked this up today and got through the first four or five games of the campaign fairly easily. Then I started a solo league and absolutely nothing went my way. Players couldn't throw. Players couldn't hold onto the ball. My guys would all get knocked down while the same roll for the other team just resulted in them getting pushed back. My re-rolls never worked while the other team's re-rolls always worked. I couldn't dodge anyone while the other team was moving freely past my players.

So I'm wondering if the teams I'm playing in the solo league have more skills that my players will eventually learn or if I'm just doing something wrong.

The no-follow advice sounds good. I'll use that.

Case in point. Current game we each have three re-rolls. Each one of mine failed. Each one of the other team's succeeded. So there must be some kind of skills they have that my players haven't earned yet.

Ok, just finished my game and saw where players seem to level up. I didn't have any but one guy has 5/6 and a couple other guys have some points.

That staying rather than following really seemed to do a lot. I wasn't spread all of the field and could support my other players better. Thanks for that strategy tip.

BTW, ended in a tie. I was 0/6 on successful re-rolls an the other team was 5/6 - the failure being stretching for the goal line and losing the ball. I got it back and managed to score on a long pass. It was pretty dramatic.

@michael in what instances did you use the rerolls? What team are you playing?

In general it was with ball handling. I think I rerolled a double skulls and a dodge, as well.

I'm still learning. The reason the other team succeeds more is that they use the right players for the job. For example, they have the Dodge skill, so when they reroll they have a better chance for success than me just rerolling the raw numbers.

I always thought this game was just lighthearted fun, but no. It is complex and without a good strategy there is no hope of winning. Was up until 3:00 AM reading strategy guides and about how deep the game is.
