Blitz event on kickoff
I had a game recently against Wood Elves. They were fortunate enough to get this blitz event on the kickoff a couple of times during the match and catch the ball before my team had a chance to take a turn. Does anyone else find this unfair? Is there even a defense that will work against this?

Depends. If you have most of your team left there is a defense against it. Simply screen across the whole field on offence, just in case. Now, wood elves will probably be able to get through anyway, but if you set up right you'll force them to at least use the blitz action as well as a dodge for every player they want to get through at least. If you've taken a bunch of casualties already you can't really defend against it, though you can get saved by the kick location being favorable.

Also, unless they get enough players to both catch the ball and cage it, you should have a pretty good chance to steal back the ball, which will occasionally make your offence easier in the end since the opponent is now out of position.

As for unfair, well, yes, but it's unfair in a way that creates interesting tactical opportunities and challenges so I like that it's there.
There are defenses that will help a gainst such an event. Having 2 player deep rows aranged so that there's no gaps in coverage helps. Alternately, have some players hang back so they can take out anyone who slips through during a blitz. it wont help all the time, but it should reduce the risk.

Against WE or any other fast\agile team you need to spread your players across the field. If blitz event occurs on your defense you have two options :
1) they will make a whole in your lineup and run to the place where ball will land to. If it's WE - probably he will send wd or catcher to get the ball. If he couldn't screen him with other players you can blitz him with your ball sacker, then stomp him into oblivion! If they managed to screen the ball - you probably screwed.
2) If the ball was kicked very deep so enemy can't reach it he will probably send few players as deep as possible and tie up your other players with disposable pieces (linemans probably ). In that case first screen the ball with as much players as possible, free up some tide up players and send them back. After that, if 6ou have sure hands or reroll - try to pick up the ball but make sure that if you fail it will bounce to a lot of tackle zones.

Also some small advice that somehow a lot of players ignore - don't put half of your team on LOS! So many times I see how opposing coache place 9 players on LOS against my 3 linerats.. Always makes me giggle when blitz event appears or he fails his block/pickup

The Blitz! event is, let's say, considered controversial. It does indeed give a huge advantage, especially when you're down players and/or it happens multiple times.
Nuffle giveth, Nuffle taketh away. Keep playing and it will happen in your favor :)

Blitz keeps you as the attacker honest. It prevents you going all-out on a strong attacking formation at risk of being punished as you have been. The reason people don't like it is because it It prevents you going all-out on a strong attacking formation at risk of being punished.

I always do my best to prepare for quick snap and blitz, on both sides of the ball. They happen, so might as well not get caught with your pants down.

Multiple blitzes by Wood Elves/Skavens/HE etc. is about as sure a loss as your gonna get. One of those pure Nuffle F's you will get sometimes. The closest thing to a defense is play more guys deep against those teams, but good luck.

There are going to be games Nuffle hates you and games Nuffle loves you.

It's a dice roll, it can go wrong. At least you can plan ahead for Blitz and/or react if it does happen, I honestly find riots and thrown rocks to be more frustrating because (barring stadium enhancements) there's nothing you can do but sit there and take it.

Most of my player deaths have been from rocks >.<

True, then ther's the games when on turn 1 you're 4 players down against chaos, and really look forward to the next 30 rounds, regerdless of the blitzes

Blitz is way better than pitch invasion or that ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ rock
At least the rock only hits one person. Although it REALLY sucks if it hits your big guy and you spread out a bit to screen a finesse team. Having a huge opening in the middle of your defensive screen can be quite the annoyance.
