EDIT: You only need to spend 1k for him to re-stock, 15k is for the Alva armor.
Stats are the most important investment.
Easy weapons
Strike weapons (these eat most early game enemies)
Rapiers (rapiers deal bonus dmg against royal soldiers (not thrust weapons specficially only rapiers get this bonus dmg))
A good all round weapon is the spear (heavy attack is strike dmg so it can really eat through strike weak enemies) it can also attack from behind a shield and is a very good all rounder.
Armor choices.
Dranglaic armoris a good choice for heavy armor wearers.
The alva set is also a good choice. To be honest most armors arn't going to make much of a differnce so try for fashion souls.
A good rule of thumb is to increase dex and str first to be able to wield the weapon(s) you want to use, followed by increasing stamina and agility afterwards.
also you shouldnt buy a shield, you get a shield with 100% physical block after beating the 2nd boss ( also a strong armor ) that boss is called the pursuerer. you also should have a great lethershield with 90% physical. found befor the last giant.
only improve your stats n pick 1 weapon to upgrade dmg ( when reaching the last giant you should have enough titanite for an +4 weapon ( 6 normal titanite n 1 large titanite )
which weapon belongs to your play styl. me for example i always choose a club as the 1st weapon, since many enemies are weak to smashing dmg, but smashing weapons are slow too.
But you need looks, equip load, and style. If you don't like a weapon, then it isn't good. If you like a weapon, then it can't be bad. So search for a weapon that tickles your fancy. Try everything in majula (the moveset, try every move), and if you like them, try on enemies.
Spend your souls on dex/strength until they are approx. 20/20. Then focus on other things. Make sure you upgrade your preferred weapon.
The Drangleic is powerful for early game, so long as you have the stats to use it. Upgrading armour is a waste of souls until late-game when you can afford to waste them.
