Is there a mod to fix the controls?
I told myself I'd try to get use to them but I just can't... double click to heavy attack is ridiculous, why is there no way to shift block, WHY is my standard movement speed sprint thus using up all my stamina, why when I lock into people and try to walk backwards away from them does my guy turn around.

DS1 literally has a mod which made the controls amazing for keyboard and mouse, why did they use that, why did they decide to make the poor guy who made that mod to fix it make a new mod to fix the awful DS2 controls?

did you try binding the keys?

or buy a cheap 15 dollar controller?
Kalvix May 7, 2014 @ 3:27am
I've tried binding the keys but it massively limits it, unless its hidden in a sub menu I can't find a way to bind block to JUST shift, its all shift+click, and I honestly have no clue why my guy is auto sprinting....
IMO the controls aren't awful at all. They're a lot better than DaS that's for sure, but if you're gonna whine about it, get a controller.

Plug in xbox 360 controller, problem solved. Why would you even try playing a game like this with keyboard, this is not an fps or some complex game that requires a lot of buttons and it was designed for controller.

Inb4 some nerd comes here whining about having to use controller to play PC game.

Get a gamepad. Problem solved. It's also way more fun with a gamepad.

Binding block to shift is no problem at all, I've done so. What is a problem though is this seems to disable target lock-on while being used. Standard movement is not sprint, there is a toggle button for that somewhere on the keyboard. Lower row, can't remember which button specifically.

Oh please, in what way are the controls better than DS1?
Kalvix May 7, 2014 @ 3:36am
Thank god im finally figuring out how to change them in a way that works, its a lot more complex than it needs to be but you CAN actually bind them into a workable system... though why the hell they make right click your attack and left click shield I'll never know, first thing I'd recommend is that people make left click right hand attack it makes no sense but it makes way more sense

Just when I think its ok... middle mouse button is lock on for me and in DS1 I could have my shield up and lock on... not in DS1 cos it counts it as shift+button which is thus no longer lock on...

Yeah, I said just the other day in a thread that it seems this layout is made by someone who has never played a PC game before. Workable, kinda, but annoying. Oh and another tip: use your mouse software to bind macros to your side mouse buttons for guard break and jump attack if you want to use them. And set one of them to light attack to eliminate the input delay.

You can bind all your mouse keys to Nothing and then use Autohotkey or X Mouse Button Control to make it so when you press left/right mouse buttons the game will think that you pressing keyboard buttons binded to weak/heavy attack, google it. This way you can get similar to DkS1 control scheme, especially if you will rebind other keyboard keys (Shift-block, Tab-parry, LCtrl-walk, R-next spell, F-next item, C-change weapon in left hand, V-change weapon in right hand etc).

I've sort of got it working but sadly I normally have middle mouse button as lock-on, but with shift as block when I block it counts it as shift+middle mouse so its no longer lock-on. Is there a way to stop it doing this or do I just need to get use to locking on before I block?

Theres a great mod out called "Wired XBox Controller"

As we said. Autohotkey allows that. You can bind the MMB to the lock-on button on keyboard at it will work normally.

Or, you know, he could actually act smart and save some money.

I'm using an AHK script that binds mouse buttons to keyboard keys for attacks (if you check under settings you'll see that you have an alternative option for attacks via keyboard) - this also removes the delay from mouse!
Yeah, there's a small delay to actions performed via mouse, if you try using keyboard you'll see that delay is gone.

With the script I also rebinded so that Lmouse is normal attack, Rmouse is heavy attack, Mouse 4/5 is left hand attack/heavy attack (or block since I use shield), middle mouse is still lock on.
